The headwaters have a place where you can walk across the Mississippi River on foot (take water shoes or easy to put on and off shoes) or you can cross across a log bridge. Not a very long hike and lots of info there.

This iconic spot is a must see. Wade across shallow water. We visited in April and there were only a few people here.

Visited in Mid-August with my husband. Busy place, with plenty of people and a very cute but shirt boardwalk area.

My family had a great time here. The beauty was beyond worth the drive. We explored, trails, fell into the waters, skipped rocks and had a phenomenal day.

Go visitor center first, crowd will leave headwaters later in day. Bring your swimsuits and definitely rent bikes to tour the park!

The headwaters are a must see! We felt it had been dug out to be larger since visiting as kids. Many large rocks to cross the start of the river. Beautiful wetlands.

Worth the trip. Having the chance to walk across the Midsissippi River is awesome. You can wade in and cross or you can cross over the rocks to stay dry. Trails are very nice as well.

What entrance is the best to use to get to the headwaters? Or does it not matter?

Agree will others, it doesn't matter. Park isn't that large & there are signs stating where to go depending on what you would like to see.

having grown up on the Miss River, this has long been on my bucket list. What else can we put with this if we came up from Mississippi?
