THE GUTHRIE THEATER is an American center for theater performance,...

THE GUTHRIE THEATER is an American center for theater performance, production, education and professional training, known for its dynamic productions of classic and contemporary plays. Open to the public year-round, this award-winning cultural destination houses three theaters, dramatic public spaces and distinctive dining.

Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel, the Guthrie is located in the historic Mill District of Downtown Minneapolis and features a 175-foot cantilever bridge which overlooks the Mississippi River. When it opened in 2006 Time magazine called the building "a 21st century dream factory."

Visit the Guthrie to see a show, grab a cup of coffee and explore the building, shop at the Guthrie Store, or to simply take in the extraordinary riverfront views. Backstage tours are Friday and Saturday mornings.

Vibrant city scene...check. Fabulous architecture...yup. World class entertainment...absolutely. Easy parking...actually not too bad. This place has it all. While it is certainly a goal to see a performance here, you should allow extra time to experience the facility and the area. Truth be told, you should plan on coming here more than once. It is that good.

Striking location, don't miss the outdoor balcony! Top notch actors, staging and scenery, have seen 3 shows here and none have disappointed. It's a lovely night out on the town, with your special someone and a glass of wine before and after... Highly recommend!

It was our first time at the Guthrie Theater and we loved the place. The building is just beautiful and quite large. We're going to find time to go there sometime just to explore the building itself but unfortunately didn't have time that evening. We saw "A Christmas Carol" on Saturday evening and it was truly an incredible performance. We... More

The theater is beautiful, blending restaurant elegance and architectural details along with excellent performances. But stepping right out over the river walk in the glass overhang is a unique feeling that ties the visitor right back to the Missiissippi again.

The Guthrie is a must-see destination for any visit to Minneapolis/St. Paul. Some of the finest professional theatre in the country. Great artists: actors, directors, playwrights, designers, production technicians, dancers, vocalists, and more create world-class theatre in an amazing location. There are usually several performances of different scale and interest going on at any given time. Even if you're not... More

The Guthrie is a prime time theater in Minneapolis, and there is not a bad seat in the house. Because the rows of chairs sit on a very steep rise, every seat has a great view. The people who work there are friendly and personable. I have been there on my own for different plays and I have brought students... More

The number one theater in a city of numerous theaters. The new venue for the Guthrie is located in an idyllic location in a recently redeveloped area of downtown overlooking the Mississippi river. Known for putting on unique productions the Guthrie is a must see attraction for any theater goer.

We had such a wonderful experience. I bought tickets online and inadvertently selected the incorrect date. When we showed up for the performance with our incorrect tickets, the managements smoothly allowed us to upgrade our seats for a nominal price and allowed us to enjoy the performance of "Sense and Sensibility."

Very unusual building. This is a public space to be used by the people. It is open throughout the day. Don't miss the Eternal Bridge that extends 180 feet out from the building with no supports under it. There is an outdoor deck at the end of the bridge with great views of the Mississippi River and the city. Also,... More

I would say this theater is a must see when in Minneapolis. The building is so beautiful and the view is stunning. You can visit this theater during the day even though you are not going to see any show there.
