THE GUTHRIE THEATER is an American center for theater performance,...

THE GUTHRIE THEATER is an American center for theater performance, production, education and professional training, known for its dynamic productions of classic and contemporary plays. Open to the public year-round, this award-winning cultural destination houses three theaters, dramatic public spaces and distinctive dining.

Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel, the Guthrie is located in the historic Mill District of Downtown Minneapolis and features a 175-foot cantilever bridge which overlooks the Mississippi River. When it opened in 2006 Time magazine called the building "a 21st century dream factory."

Visit the Guthrie to see a show, grab a cup of coffee and explore the building, shop at the Guthrie Store, or to simply take in the extraordinary riverfront views. Backstage tours are Friday and Saturday mornings.

My guy friend and I attended the play South Pacific. Due to my mobility issues, I spoke with a very nice representative at the Guthrie, to assist me with choosing seats that would not require me to take the stairs. Thanks to this very nice person, we got the third row by the aisle. The play was wonderful, and the... More

Even if you don't have time to enjoy a theatre performance, stop in and enjoy the architecture and the views from the balcony.

The backstage tour is Friday and Saturday mornings at 10 am. Cost is $12 for adults. If you can't see a show at the Guthrie while you're in town, try to do the backstage tour. We got to see both theaters, the scene shop, the wardrobe department, and rehearsal space. It's a fantastic building in a beautiful location. After the... More

I've had the opportunity to see plays in both the WURTELE THRUST STAGE and the McGUIRE PROSCENIUM STAGE, both offer excellent viewing from everywhere in the house. A variety of access options are available so no one is excluded from seeing high quality theater. Parking is available in the ramp directly across the street. During intermission of your show please... More

I have been to over 50 plays at the Guthrie. I have seen excellent productions of new plays, classics and Shakespeare. The quality of the actors/actresses is superb, the set designs are amazing and direction spot on. While the productions on the Thrust Stage and the Proscenium are typically larger and more widely oriented, the Level 9 Theater provides timely,... More

We went to see "A Christmas Carol". The play itself was wonderful (great story/performance, acting, singing, sets) and the venue offered some great refreshments (for purchase) before and during the show. Note: You are able to bring drinks into and enjoy in the theater during the show. Another great attraction is the endless bridge (4th floor) that offers a great... More

Excellent presentation on the Thrust stage of one of the bards most dark and gruesome plays. The Guthrie is an experience that needs to be savored over a number of performances. While one performance can be, and usually is, entertaining, to see the breadth of skill in casting, staging, interpretation and performance you need to see several of their offerings.... More

Hard to describe our overall satisfaction without resorting to overused accolades. We have never been disappointed with a performance, and the facility is over the top: always exciting stages, and the other parts of the Guthrie are first class in service and design.

Wonderful performance of the well-loved tragedy. Mesmerizing as the great king gradually loses his identity. The Guthrie never disappoints!
