we drove across Canada, to see our children and grandchildren in McAdam, we wanted to see where they lived our oldest granddaughter works for railway station and the day we were there was a craft show, and she told us on tour of the place, it was very interesting, she was very good at explaining everything to us, would love to see it again

Absolutely gorgeous, huge and amazing. By far the grandest old train station in New Brunswick and Maine (maybe in the entire Maritimes). Built in 1900. We stopped on a Tuesday afternoon and got a tour ($25 for the entire family) which lasted about an hour. The young docent did a great job. Got to see the entire building, top to bottom. It’s huge! There are numerous OUTSTANDING historical displays, very nicely done. We love to see places that are in the process of renovation, to get a feel for the field of historical field work. More than half of the station is in pristine condition. This includes the first floor, the formal dining room, the huge old diner, lobby, executive waiting area, etc. Some of the upstairs rooms are well-restored and give you a real feel for the old hotel, and the employee boarding rooms. Some of the upper rooms are yet to be restored. So we saw the gamut. We loved the little in-station jail (and the booking leger for it)! Staff were great. We saw a train slowly go by, as it ‘s a working railroad. We would love to return for the beautiful Christmas season. Any one who likes history, architecture or trains will love this. (The town is really cute also).

So disappointing. No pie day and only guided tours. We just like to browse and see new updates as we have been here numerous times in the past. Not a lot to attract people from outside. The station is well done so far, but the fun has gone out of the whole experience. I also remember going on July 1st a few years ago for a turkey dinner. It seems your community is not giving any support when you can’t even recruit 4 people for your pie campaign. The project must have been a massive undertaking and no doubt the same few people who started are probably still trying to make a go of it. Really wishing you the best but a few tours is not going to do it.

This place has so much history. Great place to take kids to learn about the railway. The tour was so informative and the tea and pie at end was fantastic.

My yearly tradition is to visit the McAdam Train station during the Christmas tour. Each room is magically decorated in Christmas themes throughout the main floor. This is a must if you want to get in the Christmas sprint 🙂. I would suggest visiting in the evening so you can get the full effect of all the Beautiful Christmas lights.

Staff at the McAdam Railway Station were friendly and knowledgeable during my visit Sept. 1. I arrived 40 minutes before closing time while passing through the area so I did not go for the guided tour but I would like to on my next visit. The rooms I did see were set up nicely, with several cool artifacts and displays. This building is a success story for heritage preservation.
There is more restoration to do on the upper levels, but overall, the place is immaculate. Beautiful property too. Nice pond in the backyard that may be part of the nature park nearby. The cool thing about this station is that it is still part of an active rail yard owned by the NB Southern Railway.

Although it is off the beaten path, it is well worth the trip. The guided tour was excellent and we were able to go at our pace. This station reminds us of the importance of railway in the development of the country. We look forward to returning to see the continuing restoration.

We took a tour of the train. The young man that gave us the tour was excellent. A lot of history in this station. I had not been here before, so I enjoyed it. I am not sure it is a place I would do twice, but I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of going through it once

Blink and you might miss passing through McAdam, but don’t miss the station! About an hours drive from Fredericton, this beautiful station is steeped in history. Browse through the main waiting room for tourism information, a tiny little gift shop with goods made by local artisans, and don’t forget to go on a tour! The tours are not free, but the money goes towards restoring the station. The bottom floor rooms are pretty much all restored. They are slowly working on the rooms upstairs, where the once five star hotel used to be. If you are lucky enough to come visit in the summer, make sure you come on Sunday afternoon for railway pie! Sit at the beautiful horse shoe shaped counter, choose from dozens of pie flavours and get some tea and coffee. If you happen to come visit in November, be sure to attend “Christmas at the Station.” Where the lower floors are decorated in their Christmas glory and Hot Apple cider is flowing! A must see if you are at all in the back woods of NB!

According to their website, they are only open seasonally from July 1 to September 30, from 10am-6pm. You'd have to contact them about special events or tours for groups.
