Walked thru the skywalk from mayo clinic. Very contemporary building. Walked thru all the exhibits. Able to do in an hour. Or less. Great diversion while in between appointments

I came here on a free admission day. While the official entrance was hard for me to find (Google Maps sent me completely around to the opposite side of the building using the walking option so IDK what was up with that), I still managed to get in and see everything. One of the exhibits they had was very nice, just extremely small, contained to a single room down a hallway. The other primary exhibit at the time, the one on post-modern, not so picturesque Ireland, was good. Thought provoking. Though you'll get more out of if by reading the info plaques near each piece of art. The final exhibit, upstairs, was in the process of being assembled, so it's hard to criticize it fairly. It was nice to see some good artwork created by local high schoolers, though. Most art centers wouldn't be accessible venues for artists that young without the artists already having a good following first.

Had I needed to pay admission that day I'm not sure that I'd have given quite the same rating; because this art center is fairly small compared to other art galleries I've been to, I'd say it'd depend on the admission price and what was on display at the time.

My wife and I wandered down from Mayo Clinic to see what the Art Center offered and found that on this particular day admission was free and other than the Andy Warhol exhibit there wasn't much there. The outside area is nice since it sits right along the river but I was sadly disappointed on the amount of art that they had on display.
The Warhol exhibit was a nice offering and was there on loan from the Cochrane Family Collection it's just that I expected more from a city that offers up an Internationally acclaimed hospital.
I will wander down again when in the area and have nothing else to do but my expectations will be much lower.

Not much to see considering half of the Museum is closed to the public at this time. The woman at the desk was unable to explain the exhibit to us, neglected to tell us it was only on part of the two levels and tried to charge $10 each for admission (admission is only $5 per person).

I've gone several time over the years hoping something would be good but I am always embarrassed for them and leave with nothing but a feeling that I will never go there again. There is nothing there. Sometimes, literally empty rooms. It's not even as good as a high school art show. I do not understand these other reviews. Really? Maybe the RAC is claiming to be something else and I'm rating it as an art gallery. That could be it.

My kids and I have been to a children's class there. Not impressed.

We didn't expect a lot but were disappointed that there was so little art on display, and this after we took a sneak peek at the show opening shortly. We were the only visitors on no-admission fee Thursday. That says it all.

Beautiful, small classy venue in an easy to get to Civic Center location. Where are the exhibits that are equal to the venue? After we finished walking through the exhibits we looked at each other in disbelief. How can such a great location in such a forward thinking city have what amounted to pretty much nothing on the floor? Very disappointing .

I am so glad we came on a free day. Only a few pieces in the entire facility, and they were strange. Not sure how they stay open. Either that or we caught them on a day when they were changing out all their art.

I am a museum fan…been to a bunch here in US and abroad…and I don’t like being critical… but this was Very underwhelming…from outside you see a HUGE facility with Rochester Art Center sign…museum is actually 2 VERY small floors of small exhibits …the museum is actually just the very end of the building…contemporary art is not my favorite, but I’m ok with it…but i would say 10 minutes and we saw all there was…i really was “is this really it? Is this all?” I didn’t ask any others inside, but the group that came in behind us left right behind us…so it wasn’t just me…maybe it was just “I couldn’t appreciate what i saw”?? Could be…but again, group behind us must have “missed it” as well

Appreciate the friendly staff making the best of the situation. It was free however very little to see. It was essentially empty with minor exception. This theme seems to be consistent in reviews over the years. It seems that Mayo and Rochester have left the Rochester Art Center in the dust while many other institutions in the city are thriving. It feels like an oversight not to support the art center in a manner that is consistent with the overall Rochester experience, modest yet thoughtful and steeped in quality and commitment. Good luck to the art center....
