We love Shingnobee for their x-country trails. They're nicely groomed and absolutely beautiful. The trails are at all levels of difficulty and are clearly marked. It seems to be a hidden gem because all the times I've ever been there, there were hardly any people. I am from the Chicago area and go here when we visit my in-laws who... More

We drove along Shingobee Island road. It is a very beautiful area. Stopped at an access area just before getting back on the highway and took a couple of pictures. If you time, just take a leisurely ride through here if nothing else.

There is something really magical about this scenic area. We love the view. I have snowshoed here and the trails are excellent and scenic. Awesome place.

Look for the road sign to find this hill. It's easy to miss. There are two hills-- a long mild one to the right and then a steep one straight in front. Although the images don't make it look frightening, this is the kind of hill you see kids too frightened try.

Our MN family camped in the area with the lodge available to use to cooking and gathering. It was a nice area, and everyone had a great time. There are outdoor bathrooms but no running water. The lodge has electricity and lots of tables and chairs and wood stoves etc... It's a pretty cool place for groups to gather and... More

The Shingobee Rec Area is absolutely beautiful, and for the best sledding in the entire area, check out Shingobee Hill, between Walker and Park Rapids on Highway 34. It rivals ski hills for vertical drop, so get your nerve up before pushing off the top of the slope! For chickens, there is a longer, more gradual sledding slope off to... More

We love Shingobee Hills, a popular recreation area within the Chippewa National Forest. Eight miles of looping trail, great for hiking and cross-country skiing. (Non-motorized site) The trails also tie in with the North Country National Scenic Trail that travels 62-miles across the southern end of the Forest. A little buggy in the summer! Fall is better. This is a... More
