Disappointing Fort (Fort Morgan is easily the best in the greater area). So much history seems to have been lost on this island due in large part to Camille and Katrina. The beach does offer some fantastic solitude though. Lots of umbrellas and chairs set up in a designated area, but you can easily find solitude with a 2 minute... More

Had a great time on Ship Island! Great trip out to Island. Out for 4 hours or so. Pretty and clean. Fort worth checking out. Food was decent. Bring cooler if you can.

Went out to ship island today. It was awesome! Relaxing time on the beach, with plenty of refreshment on the island. They could charge you whatever they wanted for food and drinks, but all the prices were more than reasonable. The crew on the ship and on the island were great. Saw lots of dolphins both ways on the trip.

Enjoyed the ferry ride, even though I think it was more like a 65 minute ride versus a 50 minute ride. Enjoyed the beach, but not sure I would do it in the real heat of the summer! I could see it could get extremely warm walking to the beach/swim area, so if you go in the heat of the... More

If you don't have a boat or a friend with one the Ship Island Ferry is your only way. Great to walk in solitude around a natural Island, or soak up some History in the fort, nice tours offered.

When you visit us in south Mississippi, to get a sense of why we live here, you must visit SHIP ISLAND. A tour boat leaves from GULFPORT harbor to Ship Island. During your boat ride keep an eye out for dolphins cruising along side. The island is one of our natural "barrier" islands along the coast. The south beach has... More
