Old tree but could use some beautification in the area surrounding - cool that it survived hurricanes . Not worth going unless you happen to be right in the area

A large chunk of the tree has been cut out so not as impressive looking as I'm sure it once was. They have the area roped off so you can only drive or walk by. It's very close off the main highway and only takes...More

Just think of the scenes and peoples and stories that have taken place while this tree stood in this spot - for 500+ years! There is currently tape around this majestic oak due to a cracked limb, but it is still standing and worth a...More

It was a huge, contorted, symbolic, old oak tree. It was recently trimmed (Oct. 2017), I mean cut way back, to prevent further damage due to storms and hurricanes. It is still a great symbol, and worth seeing if you're already in the area.

From August 1976 through August 1983 I was an Assistant Professor at USM-Gulf Park. My office windows looked out at this beautiful tree. Back then it had an open-air treehouse where Vachael Lindsey once taught poetry at the girl's school. I taught several afternoon classes...More

You cannot go uner the tree anymore, but it is still a sight to behold. You might be able to gather some acorns that have fallen to the wayside. This tree is over 500 years old and sithstood Katrina.

My husband brought me here after we relocated to MS; it was a strong memory of his from being a child and living in the area. It is truly magnificent to see in person. It's amazing how historical a tree can be, and to have...More

Recent events with large amounts of rain have caused the tree to crack and one long limb is broken. You can no longer pass the roped off barricade for risk of personnel danger. Beware of where you park and only in designated areas. Still a...More

What a beautiful, historic tree! This is located in the Southern Mississippi campus, and very easy to get to with parking near it. It is roped off so that you can't get too close to it, yet there are plenty of places to take pictures...More
