If Faulkner has a ghost, he'd be very happy here. The house is just as the writer left it. I was fortunate enough to visit just prior to it becoming the responsibility of the University of Mississippi when one could get up close to his...More

June 30 was my mother's 76th birthday. My daughter and her two toddlers and I wanted to do something during the day with her before the rest of the family gathered for birthday dinner. Hard to find a day trip on a hot summer day...More

My children 12,15,16 enjoyed touring the grounds and walking through the house. Faulkners room was especially interesting as it held written notes on the walls from his famous works. A must see when in Oxford and for any fan of American Literature.

For any lover of William Faulkner's work a visit to Rowan Oak is required. The home has been kept pretty much like it was when he lived there fro 1930 until his death. The place is nothing special, what they call a primitive Greek revival...More

self-guided tour allows you to spend as much or as little time as you'd like. You can sense Faulkner's presence -- especially in his study where he wrote the outline of a novel on the wall! Outdoor grounds are lovely and worth exploring

Decided to take a detour from our normal route from Livingston, AL to Jackson, TN to celebrate my wife's birthday in Oxford. Among the sights we took in one was Rowan Oak. Having earned a degree in English this just seemed like a no-brainer while...More

This is a don't miss if you are a reader. Faulkner may not be your favorite (is he anybody's?) but the place and its artifacts are most interesting. It won't take you long and you might be surprised how seeing his novel written on the...More

If you love Faulkner, this is a must see. If you don't care about Faulkner, you won't care about this house. The grounds are beautifully wild.

Preserved in time, a visit to Rowan Oak and the grounds will enlighten and educate you. I had not been knowledgeable about William Faulkner, and after touring the house and grounds I have a better understanding and a feel for this strong literary genius. He...More

No, but Square Books, very close by in the center of town, has a large section of Faulkner's and other Southern authors' books.

As already stated by others, there are a number of nice eateries nearby. Of all the places I dined in the area, I enjoyed Big Bad Breakfast the most. They serve lunch as well as breakfast. The food is delicious and plentiful.
