The perfect stop for a break while touring the Normandy Beaches and Museums.
Sep. 2019
The Maison de LeBrec and the ciderie is right on the road from Omaha Beach to Pointe du Hoc. It is not clearly marked but when you see the sign and the archway over the entrance, turn around and go back, drive thru the arch and get ready for a real treat. We were greeted by Mr. LeBrec and then given a quick tour around the courtyard and a brief history lesson about what happened there during WWII. We then went into the tasting room where we sampled only the Aperitif and the Calvados as he was out of the cider because of the drought and the small size of the apples this year. We purchased both the Aperitif and the Calvados to take home with us as well as more to take on our cruise down the Canal du Nivernais. A great move as it was the perfect beverage to enjoy on those cold, rainy days. Mr. LeBrec is the perfect host and it was a real treat to meet the person responsible for all stages of production of this great beverage.

Lots of history!

This castle was used to house the troops that came to aid France in WWII. The ciderie that is located in this castle was used as the local "pub" for the troops.

superb calvados and apple cider

My family toured the region for a week in 2012 (not 2018 as forced by Trip Advisor) and we selected beverages from Mr. Lebrec for our evening gatherings to discuss the fun of the day. Mr. LeBrec is an expert in coastal Normandy and the distilling process.

Lovely cider and calvados

Mssr. Lecrec is not only a master at making calvados and cider, but a charming and kind man who told us a little of his family farm's history.
After the D-day invasion, the home was the Headquarters of the U S 147th Engineer battalion. His family has erected a memorial to the fallen soldiers of the 147th between the home and the Apple orchards. Very touching.
