Welcome to Katy Trail State Park, the longest developed rail-trail in the country. Whether you are a bicyclist, walker, equestrian, nature lover or history buff, the trail offers opportunities for recreation, a place to enjoy nature and an avenue to discover the past. The park, built on the former corridor of the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad (MKT or Katy), is 240 miles long and runs between Clinton and Machens with 26 trailheads and four fully restored railroad depots along the way.

We went from Clinton to St. Charles over 5 days. The state park keeps the trail in good shape. We saw a few trucks out fixing pot holes. The bathrooms are clean, even the vault toilets. Almost all of them had fresh bottles of soap,...More

We stopped in Rocheport while trying to kill some time before tour at Warm Springs Ranch. When driving through the park doesn't look like more than a bike trail. A lady at a little shop pointed us down the road to a fenced area with...More

The trail runs across most of the state based on the path of an old railroad bed. This trip was my second time with family on a multi day 150-mile ride on the Katy. It is mostly very easy biking, except for getting from the...More

I picked a weekend and rode about 105 miles on my mountain bike. I started at the Pilot Grove trail head and biked to Hartsburg. First, I love how frequent the trail heads are near each town, it allows you to rest and fill up...More

The Katy trail is very well maintained and has some extraordinary bluffs to see on one side and the mighty Missouri on the other along much of the trail. The trail around Booneville and Rocheport are my favorite, followed closely by Hermann to Augusta. There...More

By foot or by bike, this is a great trail. Beautiful vistas. Tree lined pathways. Formerly the MKT railway (somehow Missouri got dropped and it became known as Katy), it is great to do different segments of the trail. The part along the Missouri River...More

The trail from Clinton to Sedalia is not well maintained. It is strewn with small bit of debris. Most of it appeared to to from a bush hog used to mow the vegetation along the sides of the trail with no attempt to clean it...More

I rode 150 miles of the Katy Trail from Boonville to St. Charles with a couple friends from college, neither of whom was much of a cyclist previously -- we had an incredible time! We covered the distance in 3-1/2 days, which included a side-trip...More

We live near the Katy Trail and it is one of the reasons we love Columbia so much. The trail is well maintained, reasonably level, and great for walking or biking.
