The Jasper County courthouse, built in 1898 is a beautiful piece of architecture. The grounds are beautiful but don't miss going inside. The first floor is basically a museum. Tells a lot of history about Route 66 and also Carthage's role in the Civil War

Didn't have the opportunity to go inside but got a few pictures during dusk. Very grand and well maintained site in the heart of the square.

It appears that this building was one of the inspirations for the building featured in the Back to The Future movie series. The architectural history is fascinating and the building features many fascinating displays. Well worth a visit.

I had a chance to go inside the courthouse again recently. I had forgotten how beautiful it was on the inside. We typically have numerous out of town guests to come for events, and we take them by the courthouse just to see it. Well...More

You actually won't need a map as you can see the top of the Court House with its huge star from most places in town! If you come into town on Route 66 then you will need to turn South onto Main Street and go 2-3 blocks. Our... More
