Overview

Visit a significant part of German-American history – and early Missouri settlement – at Deutschheim State Historic Site. Stroll through the restored 1840s and 1850s buildings and explore how German-Americans settled the Hermann area and developed the basis for a Missouri wine industry. Grapevines planted in the 1850s can still be seen on the property as can a number of historic artifacts.

It was interesting to see how the people lived back in the day. The museum buildings provide a historical look into the past. Our guide was exceptionally knowledgeable. We learned much during our tour.

The tour was great. Kim is a great tourguide. They are a smaller site so they don't have a lot of exhibit space in their main building. So take the tour!!

We did the two-house tour one Sunday afternoon. It's informative but without enough real interest or depth to generate any excitement. Certainly, kids would be bored.

We visited the Deutschheim Historic Site on a Saturday. I really enjoyed all the different buildings you get to tour. That seemed pretty unique. There were also some interesting stories told by the tour guide. I especially enjoyed the story of the young "Gastenbitters" (not...More

What a great way to learn about the town, its history, the reason the German people came there to make new homes, and to learn about their struggles and successes.

Please note it is the event, not tours that are free during Wienachsfest. Just for clarification, the hours are 9:45am-4:00pm and tours are at 10:00am, 12:30, and 2:30pm.
