Visit a significant part of German-American history – and early Missouri settlement – at Deutschheim State Historic Site. Stroll through the restored 1840s and 1850s buildings and explore how German-Americans settled the Hermann area and developed the basis for a Missouri wine industry. Grapevines planted in the 1850s can still be seen on the property as can a number of historic artifacts.

What a great way to learn about the town, its history, the reason the German people came there to make new homes, and to learn about their struggles and successes.

I've been to Germany but I'm not very well-versed on German emigration to Missouri. This trip was a spur-of-the-moment and we stumbled upon this museum by chance, but we were pleasantly surprised. Two buildings, lots of info, tons of knick knacks. My favorite details were...More

So much to learn about my home state. Missouri is rich in German history and this site is a good source of information. The guide was excellent and provided an great tour. Takes about an hour but is worth the time.

We took the 10:30 am tour. The woman giving the tour was so knowledgeable about the German families who settled in Hermann. We could have listened to her stories much longer. She was so interesting. There were 6 of us on the tour which made...More

This was one of the attractions we really wanted to spend some time in. However, when we got there, we were informed they weren't giving tours that day. Surprising as traffic had an uptick with the number of people in for the Christmas Fest. We...More

My expectations were low when we walked past the historic site as you never know what you will find. My wife and I were pleasantly surprised at what we saw and learned from the very helpful staff. Thank you!!!

Please note it is the event, not tours that are free during Wienachsfest. Just for clarification, the hours are 9:45am-4:00pm and tours are at 10:00am, 12:30, and 2:30pm.
