This is one of the prettiest towns that we have visited. This town is high up on a mountain top and the views in all directions are stunning. Walking through the town you felt taken back in time. There are some restaurants and shops. Unfortunately we got there around lunchtime and the museum and church were closed. There were several... More

IIn a fullmoon clear night perhaps one of the most beautifull views in this world. For the August fullmoon is perfect. Go and enjoy

We travelled to Monsaraz one late afternoon and what an amazing surprise. We didn't realise that we would find a little village within the castle walls. Just wish we had arrived earlier and spent more time wandering round the little streets and quaint shops. Being near to Christmas time, there were life size images from the nativity scenes and more... More

Picture a small version of Óbidos, the most known medieval town in Portugal. Add 190km from Lisbon, almost at the spanish border, and a further 60km from Évora, Alentejo's main city, with plenty of attractions. After that, you might ask: is it worth the trip? I asked that myself, and, during a private Alentejo daytour, and fascinated by Évora, I... More

The town seems like a very old town on a large hill, almost a mountain. It is the highest point around and you can see it from off in the distance. It is a nice old town with plenty of cobble streets, and is inside large stone walls. There are a few nice shops and restaurants there as well. There... More

We had heard how beautiful the town was and since it was on the way to our next stop, we visited. It is beautifully kept with fresh white paint and on this oh so low season day, there was plenty of parking though all of it required some fairly steep uphill walking. Our main goal was lunch and, in spite... More

We spent a delightful afternoon in Monsaraz. It is beautiful on approach and even more lovely views from inside the walls looking out over the countryside. Very peaceful and not overly crowded. Stunning view of the man-made lake in the distance. Only about 40 minutes from Evora. Neat shops and restaurants to explore. Definitely worth a visit.

The tower is often closed but you can walk round most of the walls. Good views to be had. It encloses what appears to be a mini amphiteatre or bullring

We spent a few hours here on a warm afternoon. The views as you are driving up to Monsaraz are impressive. A very steep drive up to the arched stone entrance to this walled village. All buildings inside are white washed and darling. A few random dogs roamed about as if the whole village was theirs! Had wine and cheese... More
