We went on a boat tour to the islands organized by Peru Hop. It was well organized, the guide spoke good English and was informative. The boat was nice and they seemed safety conscious.

We did a boat tour of the Ballestras Islands and it was wonderful. We stopped first to see the Candelabra on the mountain side. Then we were on to the islands to see various wildlife such as birds and sea lions.
Was nice to see penguins and the sea lions up close but overall feel that the great reviews of this island are misleading. After the first few minutes once you have seen the wildlife it is just the same thing for the remainder of the...More
You can book a 2 hour trip around the islands by speedboat for about $30 per person (including park entry fee) and it is a really worthwhile thing to do. The islands are hugely attractive in their own right and are literally covered in a...More
The ride out to the islands was thrilling in itself due to the choppy waves.

We booked in advance. The boat has a limited number of seats - maybe 20 - there were actually two boats that left at the same time. But I would highly recommend booking before hand - I think through your hotel. We stayed at the Hotel Paracas and the boat takes off right from their dock. Definitely one of the best boat trips ever!

Our trip was in June, one of the coolest months of the year. The flamingos were on the beach in front of the hotel all day long. The boat trip was mid morning for about 3-4 hours and we saw wildlife the entire time. We spotted several different groups of penguins on the islands, many sea lions, cormorants, pelicans, seagulls and boobies. In fact, there are so many seabirds there it is incredible. Plus our trip was a little longer and we were able to cruise by the candelabra which was an amazing sight. Our only regret is that we only stayed two nights. We could have used another full day to relax on the beach and enjoy the resort.
