Overview
More
Gain a better understanding of one of the saddest chapters in American history at Trail of Tears State Park, where nine of the 13 Cherokee Indian groups being relocated to Oklahoma crossed the Mississippi River during harsh winter conditions in 1838 and 1839. The park’s visitor center tells the tale of the thousands who died on the forced march, as well as the park’s many natural features. The park also has a cheerier side: shaded picnic sites, hiking and horse trails, opportunities to fish in both the Mississippi River and Lake Boutin, and majestic views of the Mississippi River and beyond.

We visited on a very foggy day. It was beautiful even though we could not see the river from the vantage points. The ride through the park was neat and the changing leaves were beautiful to see. We could not go to the visitor center...More

It was a nice day for a bike ride out to Trail of Tears State Park. One of the campgrounds is near the Mississippi River. The Visitor Center is well worth seeing, too. Lots of interesting information about this area.

Another great Missouri State Park! When we arrived the day of the solar eclipse, the grounds and visitor center were immaculate, and the friendly park staff was out in force directing traffic/parking, giving information, etc. I especially enjoyed the exhibits inside the visitor center. There's...More

We love to take family and friends to the overview park and the very best part of this hidden jem is the beach/swim area complete with sand on a large lake.

This park is in a beautiful setting along the Mississippi River. There are trails and fishing opportunities. But the history is well-presented in the Visitor Center. The site is where various Indian tribes crossed the river on their forced march from their homelands to the...More

The park overall is small but very nice. We stayed in the riverside campground in a motorhome with a group. The other campground in this park is much prettier but does not have electric. During our stay the campground “host” continually harassed us about having...More

Nice park. Beautiful views. Wish there were more bathrooms instead of port-a-potties. The river overlook was great. We were there at sunset and it was beautiful.

This is a beautiful state park that is kept clean. There is a river overlook that is breath taking. Hiking & horseback trails. A lake to swim in and even a camp ground.
