Overview
More
Thomas Hart Benton's life is present in both his home and his paintings, and both are preserved at Thomas Hart Benton Home and Studio State Historic Site. A trip to the home and studio of the renowned painter, sculptor, lecturer and writer offers a glimpse into how the talented Benton lived and worked. Benton converted half of the carriage house into his art studio, which remains as he left it. Visitors can still see coffee cans full of paintbrushes, numerous paints, and a stretched canvas waiting to be transformed into another of his masterpieces. Thomas Hart Benton died in his studio in 1975.

Art and history intersects at the Thomas Hart Benton Home and Studio, located in the elegant old Roanoke neighborhood in mid-town Kansas City. Everything is just as the controversial artist and his family left it, with original furnishings, including his carriage house studio with coffee...More

Benton was one of America’s great painters (born in Kansas City), and a teacher of Jackson Pollock. His home & studio are untouched since his death in the mid 70’s, and it is absolutely fascinating to see how and where he lived and worked –...More

So fun! We had no idea this was in Kansas City until our elementary school student had a project to do on a 'Famous Missourian'. We were more than pleasantly surprised to see this was right off of Southwest Trafficway, easily accessible and open on...More

If you are a Benton fan you will enjoy his home. The house and studio look like the couple just stepped out. Pretty much has been left the way it was when his wife died. I hope the state finds some money to do some...More

This is an interesting place to visit if you are interested in art. Thomas Benton was controversial during his life and visiting his home and studio sheds light on his character, formative influences and his family. We were very lucky to have an extremely good...More
