We made the trip to KC specifically to spend a couple days in the research room at the National Archives. We needed information from Nebraska and South Dakota and there were records that are not available online. We were able to access them. If you are doing this type of research, it is imperative that you phone first to give... More

This is a great place to go to begin your search on ancestry, local history, and just to see some neat things throughout the year. They have a nice gallery to walk through to learn as you go.

Not easy to find, but worth a visit. The Archives building has very interesting traveling exhibits, that change regularly. We usually go there for their speaker events which are always enjoyable. It is free and easy to tour through.

I discovered this museum by accident one day while googling around for things to do in Kansas City. I've lived here for nearly 30 years and never knew about this place. They have rotating exhibits that are excellent. The current one is on Jewish Artifacts (mostly texts and writings) found in the basement under 4 feet of water in Saddam... More

The National Archives in Kansas City is a treasure trove for actual original documents. Help is available for research. A decent video and bench seating is available when entering, and should be viewed. We made our first trip there to see the Nazi Propaganda exhibit laying out "a culture of indifference." It was very good and there was also an... More

I went to the National Archives in Kansas City to do some research on the files of Leavenworth prison inmates. The files date back to the opening of the Federal Prison at Leavenworth in 1895; they are absolutely fascinating! The archives staff goes way above and beyond to make researchers feel welcome and to provide any assistance needed. They also... More

When we were trying to decide what to do, we tried to think outside the box. We selected National Archives. What a great choice! Free services. Free classes. Excellent exhibit. We were lucky enough to be visiting during a time when they had a free class on reading the census. We learned a lot and are now on our way... More

We found out that some information about my grandfather was available at the Archives. We went there and the staff was super friendly and helpful. We left with over 700 pages of information! Now I have to go through it all and add it to the family history.

Good for research projects of any education level, but most helpful for mature teens and above. Staff is very helpful, and if you're doing local research, you should be able to locate everything you need.
