- rickbrennanrnTrinity, Florida642 contributionsSkip itEssentially a big parking for the aquarium without much more. A very few selection of restaurants and a big koi pond. Pretty much it. The carousel and ferris wheel do not make it any more attractive. Maybe if there was a show or concert going on, but to go there at any other time for something other than the aquarium is a waste.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten October 15, 2023
- C JPrinceton, Kentucky212 contributionsSo much to see and do!This was our first trip here since it became an entertainment venue and found it very interesting. There was more than we could do in one evening, so we'll be back for the Aquarium another day. It was great fun watching kids navigate the ropes course. It was a lovely day to enjoy the plaza with the lake and its amazing fire fountains show! We'll be back. Thanks for visiting!Written October 30, 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 26, 2023

I believe that there is entertainment during the summer months. It's just a nice area to spend some relaxing time. Thanks for visiting!Written October 30, 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten October 29, 2023

We went into Union Station and walked the the station before deciding to ride the ferris wheel. We were a group of 7 adults and it was a snowy night but we all loved it. We couldn't see real far but we could see the Arch through the snow and all the city lights. There is a fire and light show that goes like every 30 minutes very near the entrance and we stopped to watch. It was really nice and something free to see. We all agreed we go again and maybe visit the aquarium and try our hand at the rope climb. You do pay for all attractions but they all seemed like fun things to do and would recommend the ferris wheel.

Walked through the train shed area to get from a close by Hotel to another venue for a concert. The area was decorated for the Holidays very nicely and we were able to take a few pictures.
Coming back from the venue we planned on walking through again to the main gate by the ferris wheel. (Ferris wheel is really cool). Although we noticed other people walking through we were stopped by security and told the gate was locked at 10:00 (it was now 11:30) and we would have to walk around the Polar Express train to another parking lot and then to our hotel. We thought it odd but did as we were told. Walking the way were told took us, two older adults, alone, to an completely deserted lot. It was not exactly ideal and kind of scary. Once we got through the lot and to a sidewalk we could the gate at the Ferris Wheel..it was open and people were still coming through the train shed. We did not appreciate being misled by security and wondered why all the other people we not diverted. Probably will not go back.

The new and improved Union Station is an excellent spot for families and kids to enjoy a day out, even with COVID restrictions. We were able to play mini-gold on the small Par 2 course just inside the entrance, took a ride on the old fashioned carousel, and enjoyed a scheduled tour time at the Aquarium. The whole facility is bright and clean and very active, including the option to feed the Koi outside in the pond in the courtyard area. Parking was very easy and accessible with a range of options (some free and some paid for). The Aquarium is small, but the staff and exhibits are wonderful and a great learning experience for most kids. Take the opportunity to watch the otters play, or touch the various star fish, urchins, and rays in the 2 tour pools, or just wath all the fish and sharks glide around you in the large tank areas. The whole area is a gem for the St. Louis community, but my one complaint would be that the price is a little high for some of the activities, especially an aquarium that will only tak about 60-90 minutes to walk through.

The aquarium is small. Hope they expand it at some point. My biggest concern is the overcrowding and no one is wearing a face mask. The beginning “train ride” is a closed in room with people crowded together on a bench. No effort to provide safe distancing. This is a dangerous situation for these time.

Now a hotel and entertainment complex (Aquarium, restaurants, fountains, etc) Union Station is an impressive example of architecture. Be sure to experience the 'Whispering Wall' right upon entering. Parking in back is expensive ($25) but if one dines or visits an attraction there, one can get their ticket stamped for free parking. There is also street parking if you are lucky.

We stayed in one of the clocktower rooms as part of a package deal with 2 STL Blues games so our room was substantially cheaper than it would be normally. I am a huge fan of historic architecture and stained glass so the grand hall was my highlight. Our room was clean and comfortable with a mini fridge and safe (no microwave). They have a fitness center that includes a peloton bike. We went to the Soda Fountain on site and it was a little pricey although I enjoyed my float with gooey butter cake ice cream and whiskey. We really like going on the ferris wheel.
Some downsides: Note, as of April 2022 they do not have room service and if you want housekeeping during your stay you need to let the hotel staff know. They have a little store open from 7AM-5PM so you can get snacks there. Parking is a little messy and $35/day. Valet parking is $45/day.

My husband and I thought it would be fun to see the Light and Fire Show. It was pretty bad. Music accompanied a few puffs of fire which came out of metallic flowers on the pond. The lights - narrow strips of lights on the edge of the roofs of buildings- were just colorful streaking lines. We could hardly see them in the daylight. The whole thing was over in 5 minutes.
Families would probably like the Ferris wheel, the aquarium and mini golf. We weren’t interested so we spent 20 minutes there and left. In our opinion this Union Station needs a makeover.

The front of the union station is a hotel where they prefer only registered guests come inside. The lobby is exquisite. The public areas have plenty of seating, the aquarium, sweets shop, seafood restaurant, Ferris wheel, public restrooms, etc. It is a cool place to come and visit especially with kids.

Overpriced and overrated honestly. We spent close to $125 which included aquarium, mirror maze, carousel, Ferris wheel, and mini golf for 3 people (2 adults, 1 child). Everything was very small- mirror maze was 5 minutes. Ferris wheel was nice but should be cheaper in my opinion. Mini golf was very small course. No shopping inside the place. Aquarium was nicest thing but very small and ropes course looked nice but everything else was really mediocre. Finished everything in an hour and a half and seemed like it would be a lot more than it was. Had to pay for parking. The soda fountain was overrated and overpriced.

Union station has a lot of cool things to see though we were a little disappointed we couldn't see much of the building because we didn't stay at the hotel. Also, it is important to note (because we couldn't find this answer anywhere) that the mini golf is not under any sort of roof so if it is raining you will get wet. The wheel is cool but a bit pricey.

are the attractions covered if it rains while we are there?
Written August 5, 2023
Some are and some aren't. The restaurants have indoor and outdoor seating. The St. Louis Wheel is an enclosed cage. The Carousel is covered and the aquarium is inside. Miniature Golf and the fire/fountain show are entirely outdoors as well as the Koi Fish Pond and a small children's playground. The rope obstacle course in entirely indoors, as well.

What attractions are currently open at Union Station (mini golf, carousel, ferris wheel, etc.)?
Written June 20, 2019
The wheel, soda fountain diner, light show, fire show, hotel, and that's it for now. There is a bunch more coming soon (mini golf, carousel, mirror maze, and ropes course).
