The Mother Church of the Archdiocese of Saint Louis, the superstructure of the Cathedral was built between 1907 and 1914. The Cathedral's 100th Anniversary is being celebrated in 2014.

It is known for its' beautiful interior mosaics, which took nearly 80 years to create using more than 41 million pieces of glass tesserae. The Cathedral is known for having one of the largest mosaic collections in the Western Hemisphere.

Pretty amazing structure for the Midwest! Don't miss the museum in the basement. Was moved to be with an instrument used for praise over 6 centuries in form of a large chorale book with ancient vellum pages...

Very enormous and beautiful cathedral. Amazing inside painting. You can visit it for free. I am so happy that I visited it while staying in St. Louis

Saw this as #3 on Trip Advisor so decided to go. The workmanship inside is simply stunning and no pictures can do it justice. You should go Monday thru Saturday early afternoon to be able to enjoy it and not disrupt Sunday services. The grounds are also lovely and there is some interesting artwork there. This is an architectural gem in the heart of the city. The mosiacs that cover the entire interior are exquisite. Check ahead of time to make sure you won't be disrupting Mass, otherwise, free guided tours and tours on your own are available. This is an amazing cathedral. Saw a lot of magnificent cathedrals in Europe but the tile art wotk in this place beats them all. A must see when in St. Louis.

If you have never been in a Basilica this is a beautiful one to visit. The mosaic work is stunning and worth viewing up close and personally.

this is so beautiful inside, several chapels and altars including one reserved for the blessed Sacrament. it was cool but pleasant inside and I sat and prayed for a few hours while my friends explored. Went downstairs to the museum and mausoleum where past cardinals are buried. Will return for sure when I can attend mass here. And will bring... More
