The Mother Church of the Archdiocese of Saint Louis, the superstructure of the Cathedral was built between 1907 and 1914. The Cathedral's 100th Anniversary is being celebrated in 2014. It is known for its' beautiful interior mosaics, which took nearly 80 years to create using more than 41 million pieces of glass tesserae. The Cathedral is known for having one of the largest mosaic collections in the Western Hemisphere.

Rich artwork, amazing mosaics, beautiful statuary, wonderful carvings - all in a HUGE church. We have been lucky to have visited churches in Europe and Russia. Some are more ornate but for absolute grandeur and splendour this is amongst the top we have seen anywhere....More

We were in Rome in May and this basilica was just as ornate and spectacular as what we saw there. Take the walking tour to hear the fascinating history of each chapel. The grounds have colourful flowers and sculptures

A must see in St. Louis ..take the free tour and bring your camera! The details in this Church can not be replicated today. Check out the museum downstairs when you are done.

There are a couple of free parking lots behind the Cathedral. You just need to drive around the block to get behind it. No metered street parking in this area of the city. Just don't go at Mass time or they will be... More
