Amazing animal exhibit
Apr. 2021 • Family
This is the zoo to experience ! There is a huge variety of animals to see and touch. The staff goes out of their way to ensure your visit is memorable. Its obvious the care that is provided to these exhibits is top notch. The animals are their family. Our grandson can't wait to go back.

We had the best time today!! Spur of the moment road trip. Matt was so nice and full of information and stories. He really made our visit so amazing!! Thanks Matt! With 600+ animals of 60+ different kinds, it was so nice to see them all. No rushing. So clean and down to earth. I loved the arctic foxes and the babies (not so little) in the barn. If I could give 10 stars, I would!

Absolutely amazing and super fun!

I’ve got to repeat my title here, because it truly was such an amazing and fun time! I didn’t know what to expect but WOW. My boyfriend and I were passing through and decided to stop by because we love animals, learning about them and being able to really interact with them. For COVID precautions, there were plenty of hand washing stations around and social distancing; we went around noon and there weren’t too many people so social distancing was easy. The place was a lot bigger than expected with way more animals that I didn’t expect to be there - like the gorgeous white peacock, among many other peacocks! The large feed cup truly was large (not like when places advertise large and it isn’t actually a large or it’s filled halfway) and you can feed almost every animal there, from camels to deer to alpacas. We had a blast and it was definitely worth visiting!

Surprisingly fun day
Aug. 2019 • Family
We came here with three adults and eleven kids ages 4 to 19. It does not look like much from the outside, but there is a shocking range of animals, from snakes and lizards to barnyard favorites to yaks and camels. There are several rare and exotic animals here, including several that I have never seen in much bigger zoos (hello, zedonk!). You can buy some feed for the goats and sheep, and the kids had a great time with that. There are camel rides, which we passed on, but how often do get that chance outside of the Middle East? The staff is very friendly and eager to share information about the animals. Overall, really well done.

This is our second time going to Big Joel's Safari. Got to meet Big Joel himself. Very nice man. Not badly priced and we liked that they had tarps put up for shade when observing some animals. Different than last time. The kids were able to feed the goats a seed mix and loved doing that. $2.00 will get you a small cup full.
The workers seemed very knowledgeable of the animals and tried to answer any questions we had. Kids loved the playground as well.

A wonderful adventure

Our family absolutely loved visiting here. So many animals to see, feed, and pet for a reasonable price. Our 17, 14, and 10 year old loved it. The parakeet encounter was incredible. The birds just flew to us. For the five us, two large cups of feed was plenty. The staff will answer any questions and are super friendly. Definitely going back.

So much fun!

Animals big and small to pet and feed at every corner. We purchased a cup of feed and a feed stick for the parakeets. All the animals recognize the cup and know they are getting a treat very friendly. Playground available for the children. Shaded areas with benches for the adults. Loved every minute.

Family owned zoo that does everything right
May 2019 • Family
This is an incredible hidden gem. As much as I love the St. Louis Zoo, this place is every bit as enjoyable. I have been to many zoos all over the world and I’m usually very leery about supporting privately owned zoos who may not adequately maintain their animals. These animals seem to be loved like family pets. Admission charge is minimal, considering the costs that must be involved for the owners. 8$ for adults which is less than a movie these days. This place undoubtedly puts so much work and love into caring for all their happy, friendly and well fed animals. I’ve noticed that so many reviews mention that it’s a great place for kids, but I believe it has an equal amount of value for any adult who has dreamed of recreationally raising any type of livestock. My family and I loved the close encounters, well manicured grounds and educational programs. I was beyond impressed. Many thanks to the proprietors, you’ve done something fantastic for the community! We will both recommend and return!
