Tubing the Swan -- A must Do!!

There is a stretch of the Swan River that can be "tubed" (floated using inner tubes). I can't remember the name of the road that has a bridge where you will "put in". Nor can I adequately describe where you will "pull out". But, the locals know. Do this with your children. It takes an hour and a half or... More

We enjoyed this quaint, quiet and scenic area of Montana. We stayed at the Swan River Inn and dined a few miles down the road at the Raven. Bigfork is a great place to stay while enroute to or from Glacier National Park.

We lived on the Swan River for 12 years, and each summer I'd "rescue" dozens of floaters coming past our home because they missed the take-out spot. The recommended take-out -- where you will need to park your 2nd vehicle -- is on Highway 83 at the wide spot between Wolf Creek Drive and Landmark Lane. If you miss getting... More

We live on the swan river and enjoy using our canoe. Neighbors us kayaks. Upper reaches of the river below Swan Lake are better for fishing.

We walked for several miles along the path. Great view and scenery. A great place to take your dog or just go for a walk. It would have been better with a fly rod to cast into the river.

Really pretty river with old bridges. I always see several people floating down the Swan River in inter tubes and fancy floats. If you're in Bigfork rent yourself some floats and enjoy.

If I could pack up right now and live in a cabin on the Swan River I would. My husband did some fly fishing and I sat on a little island in the middle of the river near where he fished. I did a little "creek hiking" while he fished. It's not so big that you worry about being swept... More

Head on over to the Ferndale Market and pick up an inner-tube. They even supply the air and will point you to the put in spot. Grab lots of sunscreen and water to drink, but you will not regret the slow pace, cool waters and excellent views of what Montana living is all about. Just floating down the Swan River!... More

I am 63 years old and went Kayaking in the Swan River. It was really nice and calm most of the way. I really enjoyed it. Hope to do it again.
