We came across Fort Benton completely by accident, driving from Shelby to Lewistown. We only stopped for a leg stretch and a coffee in what seemed a quiet and tired looking place. Were we surprised!!! Walking along a stretch of the Upper Missouri River we noticed large information boards, telling us all about the history of the town, the buildings... More

Made a special trip north just for this museum and greatly enjoyed it. A lot of information on pioneer life in early Montana. The museum includes a small pioneer village that features homes, a school and businesses as they would have looked in the past. A great place for children to learn about life on the prairie.

This museum is filled with farm machinery from all periods that are interesting, amazing and unique. It is one of the best I have seen in my travels around our country. It is not to be missed!

We ought this would be a half-hour stop, tops - but it kept going; we almost missed the old village behind, with a school, prison, court-house, mercantile from early Montana days. Stayed two hours, and could have stayed longer.

Don't miss this museum. We spent a leisurely Saturday strolling the fort and museums in town. This particular museum is huge and if you were really interested in agriculture could be a destination just for that reason. I'm not but still found it great. The 1920s village was well done and fun to walk around. Amazing museum for such a... More

Huge museum with outstanding exhibits. One fee $8, for all the museums in Fort Benton. Also visit the fort and the BLM information center exhibits. Best museum value in the state. The quality of the museums are amazing for a small town. Plan on staying overnight? Consider the Grant Union Hotel on the Missouri River. You will get the feeling... More

All of Fort Benton's museums are worth visiting, but this was our favourite. The 1920s businesses and homesteads were very impressive. The site of the museum is very big - the museum was far larger than we anticipated. It's impressive that such a small town has such exceptional museums.

Very interesting exhibits and history of Fort Benton. Especially enjoyed the Native American displays and history. The fort is built like the original one (one blockhouse is original). Very hospitable guides.
