The first museum dedicated to Western art, the C.M. Russell Museum houses Charles Marion Russell's original studio, the home where he lived, and many paintings and bronzes created by Russell and his contemporaries. It also includes a compelling exhibition of Browning Firearms, featuring information on John Moses Browning (1855-1926), one of the world's most important and innovative gun makers.

I went to The Russell for the second time this past weekend. The level of the art work is amazing. Plus you are not hounded by the staff as you go through the museum so you can take your time and really see the exhibits. Charlie Russell's work is fantastic, plus they pieces from Thomas Moran, O C Seltzer, Joe... More

A very well done, carefully thought out museum. Kudos to the curator and staff! I have seen many exhibits of Russell's work; this is the best. We spent about two hours on our first visit and then went back later.

I have been going to this museum since childhood, it has grown and been updated over the decades and is very well supported. For me this place is one of the defining features of Great Falls. Among the finest of Western artists, we have also seen Warhol and Picasso here. The log cabin studio has held a certain fascination for... More

The Russell is a great museum for such a small town. The community of Great Falls, with many others who appreciate the work of Montana's most well known artist, has done an outstanding job of creating and maintaining one of the best attractions in the state. There is always something new to see at the Russell, and there are many... More

I visited the Russell Museum Sept. 10-11, 2015. Once again, I joined as a member. Membership and entry fees are quite reasonable. In order to do it justice, I recommend at least a half- day be devoted to its exhibits, the grounds, the boyhood home of Charles Russell, and the gift shop. Start on the lower level and work your... Great examples of his work during the various phases of his career. Also on site is the home he lived in and his studio. Allow 2-3 hours to take it all in.

If you want to learn more about one of the West's premier "frontier" artists, someone who I regard as a fascinating talent, don't miss the Charlie Russell Museum. Located in a quiet residential neighborhood, be sure to visit the log cabin studio where he spent lots of creative time, the home he and his wife lived in, and the museum... More

Unparalleled place to see a large sampling of Western painter Charlie Russell's work, as well as his studio, home, and the work of his contemporaries and students. A lot of it boils down to how much you do or don't like Western art and Russell in particular. Seeing his work first-hand is a much different experience than seeing it in... More

This is one of the best art museums I've ever been to. Granted I didn't know a whole lot about Russell previously, but I was blown away by his artwork. The museum contained more than just his art, however, but the art of some others (many of which were friends of his), historic firearms, and Native American artifacts. There were... More

This is not just a collection of beautiful paintings and sculpture. It's an unbelievablely entertaining and engrossing history of the American West. Be sure to also visit the lower level exhibits dedicated to Native American culture and the history of the Bison!!
