Great opportunity for a quick hike at lunch or any other time. Many access points around this mountain of a park. Some easier approaches or difficult depending on what you need. My favorite is the ridge trail for mountain biking or a very easy long hike to the summit.

The title says it all. Hiking, biking, X country skiing, the whole city is a hidden gem. Most areas have trailheads within a few blocks that connectto a trail system with mile and mlles and miles of trails.

The West trails up Mount Helena are great with much less people on them. This is a steeper climb to top with a elevation gain of about 1300 feet to top of peak in approximately a 2 mIle hike to top, depending on which west trail you use. The difficulty varies but considering elevation gains it is a good workout.... More

This is a must hike if you're in the Helena area. The trail is a little difficult if you do not hike often, but it is well groomed and clearly marked. As you are hiking, you are likely to run into very friendly dogs and humans and see gorgeous scenery. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to get out of... More

The views are typical outstanding Montana views, especially once you get to the top where "Devil's Kitchen" cave is. But if you don't like to hike or have joint issues, etc. this hike is not for you!

Hiking up Mount Helena is free and well worth the views on the way up and at the top. It is quite a hike though and not for someone out of shape. There is plenty of parking at the base of the mountain, which is also free. Be sure to take a bottle of water with you as there is... More

So I'm biased about Mt. Helena in general because I only wanted to hike to the H, but I figured this would be the place to talk about it. First of all, parking is located off Reeder's Village Drive (itself off of Park Ave), and it's free. If you want the fastest way to get to the H, then you're... More

The view on the backside from the top of Mt Helena is gorgeous. Def worth the effort. If you are not used to the altitude - like me - this hill will be a tough one, but again the payoff is worth it. I'd say the 1906 Trail is a National Park quality walk Easily walkable from most anywhere in... More
