We stopped here at sunrise to see the cranes on the Platte. It is a very nice walk from the parking lot to the bridge, and the wide sidewalk makes it very accessible. Pretty area, with wildlife - we saw owls and deer, as well as the Sandhill Cranes. There are some houses near the entryway and an area that... More

My dad and I were in Kearney to see the cranes and thought we'd give the bridge a try to view them. We went both at sunrise and sunset. The cranes don't land very close to this bridge, but you can see a lot and the sound of them flying over on large groups is astonishing. The scenes of the... More

I enjoy the path, you get bikers, skaters, walkers, joggers, pets... pretty much a wide variety of company. You can walk flat areas or areas with more hills.

This neat trail has variety and is easy to follow. It runs into a park with a tower that has a fun little lake with paddle boats. I want to kayak the creek along the side of this trail, sometime. I would suggest starting at the Archway Monument and following the trail that goes under 2nd Avenue. It goes all... More

Just a short ten minute walk from the parking lot in Fort Kearney State Rec area, and is a great spot to see cranes on the river at first light and at sundown. Plenty of room and not too crowded in the morning, but during migration season (mid-March) bus loads of people start arriving in the evening. Plenty of room... More

This is one of the nicest trails I have been on. It weaves all around town. You can make it a long walk or cut it short.

Short walk from the parking at Kearney State Recreation area, NOT the Visitors Center, to the bridge. As we didnt know what to expect, we arrived quite early in the evening to view the Cranes transition from the fields to the river. We saw many formations of Cranes fly over as the sun was beginning to set and enjoyed watching..we... More

We watched the Sandhills come in on Good Friday eve. Sun broke through some clouds at sunset - just lovely. Of course the crane watching was terrific! A large flight landed just downstream on the sandbars. We definitely plan to do this again! Very easy to access, though it is a couple hundred yards from the parking site.

I have to complain about the weather-worn wood on the railing. got several small tears in my jacket. Really nice walk right over the Platte River, and great views of Sandhill cranes

Made the trip over to watch the sandhill cranes before sunrise. It was col, but what a wonderful experience. Thousands of cranes taking off before sunrise just as the eastern skies where turning orange. Highly recommend getting up early for the show.

Thank David N
