The view of Bailey Yard from the Golden Spike Tower is really spectacular! Watching trains being humped into their respective consists was certainly something you don't get to see everyday. Great stop for any rail fan.

To clarify, if you go up in the Golden Spike Tower, you will be viewing the Bailey Yard. It's the largest classification yard in the world and there is a guide in the tower (8th floor, enclosed observation deck) to explain what you are seeing....More

this is a train buff's dream. the trains move through like one every six minutes, so there's always something to watch. the tower is even air conditioned, so you're out of the heat. the spouse loved it....her dad used to help run the trains. highly...More

When is train days this year? This will be our first trip and want to see everything we can. This will be our only time visiting. Thank you. Another question we are planning on coming by Amtrack but closet to get three is MCcok. Is there any other passenger trains that come into North Platte?

Oh yes, there is an elevator to both observation decks.
