While passing by on I-80 on my way back from Yellowstone, I stayed the night in Elko and on a whim, took SR 227 for the half hour drive east to Lamoille Canyon Road (well marked). The roads are all paved and in great shape. There is a cinderblock restroom at the parking lot. I got to the upper trailhead... More

We live nearby and Lamoille Canyon is spectacular. You frequently see bighorn sheep and if your eyes are good enough, mountain goats. There are campsites that accommodate RV's. This really is a hidden treasure that you would never know existed when driving by on I80! There are numerous hiking trails and alpine lakes. Winter provides snowmobiling and heli-skiing. There are... More

Such a beautiful walk. Went on the Lions Camp trail along the river. The beaver ponds, rock formations and light play was breathtaking. Will go back again and again.

Nevada is thought (by many) to consist largely or desert, basin-and-range, Reno/Carson Valley Area, Las Vegas, and casinos - but there are some exquisite natural gems as well. The Ruby Mountains - and Lamoille Canyon in particular - is a terrific example. We had not heard of the Lamoille Canyon prior to arriving in Elko, and only learned about it... More

Lamoille Canyon is is just a short 15 minute drive from Elko. The road is paved all the way into the canyon with several places to pull over and take pictures. We were there just in time to see the beautiful fall colors throughout the canyon. At the end of the road there is a large parking lot and a... More

Oh that I were younger! I would have gone farther on the trails. The scenery was breathtaking and there is plenty to see from the roadway.

Beautiful mountains and views all along the scenic drive. We visited a few years ago and hiked to lamoille lake but this year we knew our 2yr old wouldn't be able to do that so we decided we would stop at a picnic site near the stream. We were disappointed that there were no areas near the stream and the... More

Only 20 minutes from our hotel in Elko...this glacially formed canyon is magnificant. As the two lane road winds deeper and deeper into the canyon, you can't help but ohh and ahh over the rock formations. We probably took at least 100 photos. Wish we had had more time to stop and walk some of the trails. No entrance fee.... More

Love driving through on the way to the Ruby Mountains and seeing the deer sitting in people's yards like they were their pets.

We just returned from a two-night stay at Thomas Canyon campground in Lamoille Canyon in the Ruby Mountains. First, I HIGHLY recommend reservations. We arrived Tuesday, late morning, and every spot was already taken except one. Most spots are walk-up though. If you want to gamble, I'd recommend aiming for a arrival on Wednesday mid-late morning. More spots seemed to... More
