We usually go to Heavenly when we go to Tahoe but this time we stayed in Reno and wanted to check out North Tahoe since we stayed in Reno. This is only about an hour away from Reno and is very easy to get to....More

This mountain has everything from super easy beginner runs, to cruising intermediates, fun blacks, and super expert Chutes. The staff and the locals are very friendly and it has a home-y kind of vibe. Not pretension like some of the corporation owned ski resorts.

A great selection of green runs and beginner lifts for those just learning; I like that they're all close together and "Around the World" (green) is really long, too, which is great practice. There's a wide variety of blue runs as well as double-black-diamond runs...More

Mt. Rose is a great place for beginners to take ski lessons, has friendly helpful employees. Depending on the powder, snow boarding is great. An easy commute from Reno.

This is a rather small but great ski resort for those that live in the area. Buying a year pass makes this resort an excellent one to visit often for a few hours each weekend day (and during the week for those who don't have...More

It was just me and my 9 and 11 year old sons. The mountain was perfect for the 9 year old beginner. Lots of greens and he even managed Lakeview lift trails. There were several challenging blues off Lakeview as well. Great that about half...More

This ski area is the closest to Reno (30 minutes drive), and doesn't attract the "California hordes" that flock to nearby Northstar and Squaw. The resort has tons and tons of snow, a wide variety of runs, small lift lines and decent amenities. Look for...More

I've never encountered altitude sickness at Mt. Rose or anywhere, and I regularly backpack at altitudes of 8,000-10,000 feet. It won't be an issue.
