The Sparks Heritage Museum boasts 4000 square feet of indoor exhibit space and an outdoor train exhibit consisting of a Steam Locomotive, a Caboose and a Pullman Business Car. Using artifacts to tell the story, the exhibits give a sense of the rapid changes northern Nevada has undergone, from ranching and mining to the introduction of the railroad and into modern times. Tours can be arranged by appointment.

Located in a neat bar and restaurant area with plenty of free parking garage parking just behind the businesses, the museum is a must to visit. See relics of the mining industry, the railroads and the lifestyles of early Nevada residents.

I was pleasantly surprised to see all the historical displays in this tiny museum. Lots of tidbits from history. The volunteer docents were helpful with questions. There is a huge Basque exhibit as well. Down-home, fun and friendly place.

I have to admit, I sold this place short. It's a tiny museum, but there are literally thousands of artifacts jammed into this building as well as a 45 minute historic tour of several train cars that are parked across the street. Don't miss the...More
