Just a fun 35 minute diversion in the small town of Virginia City. The announcer was fun and told lots of stories of the area and mining. Glad we did this!

Our family has taken this tour a few times over the years and enjoyed it very much each time. The train moves at a relaxed pace and is a 35 minute round trip from Virginia City to Gold Hill and back; definitely bring a camera for some great historical and panoramic shots. Conductor is very informative and tells the history... More

Regardless of your age, everyone has fun on a train. Leaving the original 1870 train depot, the train takes you for a 35 minutes ride to the town of Gold Hill and back. We stayed on the train for the ride back to Virginia City. There is narration of the history of the mining towns but sometimes it was hard... More

Having done both the short trip from Virginia City to Gold Hill and the longer trip from Carson City to Virginia City on different visits to Virginia City we can recommend the short diesel hauled trip but if you have the time and are there at the weekend go on the longer steam hauled train if you can. Short trips... More

Top experience! The ride was at a very easy pace and very relaxing. We were able to get the photos we wanted to while the train was in motion. Enjoyed the humorous historical repertoire of our tour guide, David. The experience kind of takes you back in time. Enjoyed our time in Virginia City, visiting the Fourth Ward School Museum... More

Im not sure what I was expecting but its a 35min ride were they back the train up, then they go back to the station foreword. The engineer and the conductor were dressed in period dress and added to the experience. But it was very informative and the highlight of the ride was a herd of wild mustangs that live... More

Took the train ride. The fellas on the train, kept things fun and informative. I came with a party of eight. Everyone loved the history and the wonderful views. We even spotted some wild horses on the hills. The conductor took the time to take a picture with my baby nephew. This train ride completed our trip to Virginia City!... More
