The Auto Rd never disappoints. Staff is friendly and the road is incredibly well maintained. Drive yourself or take a chauffeured van. Either way its lots of fun.

The views once you get to the top are very worth it! I'll tell you right now though, there are spots where there are huge drops off the side of the mountain off the road with no guardrails. Just go slow and don't use your...More

Pretty sketchy when driving up, this is definitely not a drive for the weak at heart, but honestly, I'm afraid of heights, and I had little difficulty driving to the top. Take your time, especially on the way down, and you'll get there. The audio...More

We went up Mount Washington on the tour and had a wonderful time learning about the mountain and it’s history, it’s flora and fauna. We started at the lodge at the base by looking at the various vehicles that had been used to take people...More

I agree this is not for the faint of heart. But with some common sense and patience it is well worth the trip. People need to slow down - this is not a highway. If you have not driven mountain roads, pay for the train...More

We arrived at the gate to see a car in a ditch just past the toll booth. Perhaps, we should have seen this as a bad omen. We proceeded up the mountain in our Jeep, and reached the top in a thick fog. Went into...More

Having grown up out West, I've been wanting to drive this road since moving to New England a few years ago. We finally made it! Included in the price of admission is one ticket per passenger to see the museum at the top, a bumper...More

Not all of the road is paved. It's a short piece above tree level that's dirt. But very good driveable. The whole road is easily driveable if you have a feeling for the car and its dimensions.

I’d take the van. You’ll get to see a lot more. And, your car will appreciate it.
