Great setting for the house and grounds. Excellent tour guides and a great glimpse into the lives of an early statesman and his extended family. Well worth the trip.

We visited in late July, after a fairly dry stretch of weather, and the flowers were still magnificent. There were several trails that you can follow, outside of the historic house itself, including one including some fascinating structures! I really didn't know a lot about...More

For people who want more than beach and boat, this is a must visit. The John Hay family build this property as a retreat, and chose the spot wisely. Now owned and managed by a Trust, The Fells offers a visitor informative details on America's...More

Beautiful spot- enjoy gardens and hiking in forest or down to Lake edge. Historical site. The art sculptures are an added bonus.

The Story of John Hay is the kind of thing that is almost too remarkable to be true, but it is surely true. He started out being a corresponding secretary to no less than Abraham Lincoln and wound up as Secretary of State under Teddy...More

This is a lovely place for a stroll among the gardens. Be sure to tour the house as well. Great place for birdwatching. One of the hiking trails brings you right to the shores of Lake Sunapee.

We've been to the Fells four times and three seasons now. We've visited the gardens and toured the historic house. We've been to a wedding there and also to their November Christmas Showhouse. We've never been disappointed. Looking forward to snowshoeing there this winter.

This is not a review of a day trip to the Fells. This is my experience using the Fells as a wedding venue. The fells is a beautiful estate situated between the mountain and lake in Newbury, NH. Very little decorations need to be brought...More

Unfortunately the house itself was closed th day we went. Hiked on of the trails that brought you down to the shore of Lake Sunapee. Toured all the beautiful gardens. If you're staying at the Mountain Edge Resort they have complimentary passes to the Fells.

I am not certain but I think it cannot be more than an hour. They also might take you around the grounds. To me it is New Hampshire's version of Mount Vernon.
