Overview

Sail aboard the Piscataqua, a traditional reproduction of the flat-bottom gundalow barges that were once prevalent along local waterways. Educational, informative and fun, a sail is a great way to explore the sights and sounds of the Piscataqua River. Morning, afternoon, and sunset sails run Memorial Day through Columbus Day, and we offer weekly specialty sails featuring music, guest speakers, local tastings, and more. Private charters are also available.

A very informative trip with great staff and volunteers. It was a relaxing cruise on the river and we highly recommend it. We will go back.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed their History Tour on the Piscataqua. The staff were very helpful and informative. The 1.5 hour sail's views were very diverse from decrepit old prison to historic forts to million dollar homes.

If you are looking for a unique way to experience the river in Portsmouth, then give the gundalow ride a chance. From what I could tell, everyone (young children and adults of all ages) enjoyed the ride. Crew were super friendly.

We took our grandson on the children's trip. It was amazing. The crew was excellent and patient. They did a great job of teaching about the gundalow and of letting the kids feel like they had taken part in the sailing of it. Our three...More

We took the sunset cruise, and although we knew we would not see a sunset through the clouds, we truly enjoyed the 2 hour trip. Just enough information shared while sailing, and volunteer staff was available to answer specific questions. I would take children on...More

Great activity to kill a few hours. I believe this is the only flat bottom sail boat of it's kind. Great replica of the original. Captain and Crew were super nice. Extremely relaxing. A few of the crew members gave a short presentation of the...More

We did the sunset cruise on a beautiful 4th of July evening and it was a perfect experience. Our guest speaker was Dr. David Ferland, retired Portsmouth chief of police. His talk was on "The Working Women of the Waterfront's Red Light District" circa 1895....More

Staff was great, maybe the tour is designed to be what it is but for me I would have enjoyed more history (the short five minute blurb as in other reviews hasn't been improved). The tour seemed to be more for locals who had previous...More

Thanks for your review. While our sails are not a narrated tour of the riverfront, our crew and volunteers love to explain all the historic and varied sites along the river to anyone interested. We aim for a relaxing sunset sail and let the guests...More

Our family (two kids: 16 and 13) took the sunset sail on a Thursday night with live music. If you are looking for flashy and fast, this is not for you. But after a hectic pace of sightseeing and college tours, we were glad for...More
