The Tannourine Cedar Forest Nature Reserve created by virtue of Law No. 9 on February 25, 1999. The reserve is managed by a committee in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment. The reserve protects the largest and most dense cedar forest of cedar in Lebanon (625ha). The cedars accounts for more than 80% of the total number of trees exceed 2,500,000 trees. Other trees that can be found are oaks, junipers and maples living all together. The unique geography and topography of the forest protected the forest from human exploitation. Since 2006, the reserve has been declared an "important bird area (IBA). The reserve constitutes an ecological and scientific niche of plant and animal biodiversity

This reserve is beautiful for hiking. There are five main trails that you can choose. We chose trail 2. It was the shortest. On midway of this trail there is a breathtaking view of the valleys. There is a 5000 LL entrance fee.

I have hiked with Libantrek in this area. With Jorge, professional, helpful and reliable guide, a master, has showed the most beautiful footpaths, providing botanic details about this area. I have enjoyed an amazing trek. Unique and rewarding trek in an unspoilt nature.

Enchanting forest. Trails are well marked, and varied, with varying difficulty levels. Allow a 1/2 day at least, and bring plenty of water.
