About
The boutique winery of the Malherbes of Eikehof can be found amongst the decades of old oak trees from which it get its name. - CM EWashington DC, District of Columbia106 contributionsWonderful family owned and run winery!!Wonderful family-owned and run winery (now in 4th generation). Meet the actual owners. We were welcomed by the husband and wife team who gave us a welcome taste. We then did a 4 wine taste with a large meat, fruit, and cheese tray. Everything was wonderful. This was the only winery where we bought wines to take home with us. Highly recommend it for a small, family-owned winery experience!Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 9, 2023
- Langstone111Newport, United Kingdom159 contributionsBest Small Wine FarmLovely welcome to this fantastic small family wine farm. All the staff were very welcoming especially Caleb. Choose the wine tasting and cheese and fruit platter which was so good! We asked where the cheese was made so that’s tomorrow’s day out sorted. The wines were all really good. Bought 6 bottles and some fresh peaches for breakfast. We will visit again for some wine and that cheese and fruit platter. As well as the lovely cheese and wine the views were pretty spectacular too from under the shade of the oak tree.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten December 1, 2023
- mrgrumpyNorthumberland, United Kingdom85 contributionsNot to be missedGreat wine tasting experience in fact one of the better ones we have had in this area. Caleb? Was informative and answered all our questions. The present owner took time to speak to us and you get the passion the owners have with their fourth generation farm. We also took to some of their wines and getting some shipped back homeVisited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten January 11, 2024

Owners take time and obviously pride in detailing their delicious wines. Their staff too are without doubt excellent-informed, friendly and welcoming. - Anthony SSan Francisco, California27 contributionsPerfect Stop in StellenboschMy wife and I had this as a stop for the Wine Tram stop back in September, and we highly recommend making it a part of your time in Stellenbosch! The property is beautiful and the wines were great, but our favorite part of our stop here was definitely Anunwa, who was not only knowledgeable about the wines, but took the time to talk to us about our travels and where we're from. We loved chatting with him about the NFL!! We will definitely be ordering some of their wines and shipping them back to the US, and look forward to catching up with Anunwa next time we are in South Africa!Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten February 18, 2024
- Gary PRoyston, United Kingdom58 contributionsA winery with a differenceWhat a different experience. Warm and friendly in the approach to wine tasting with owners and staff who are committed to the love of their wines. A smaller operation that really has that personal touch. We asked our host Caleb to choose the wines he would recommend. He offered wines that paired so well withe the variety of meats and cheeses available to sample from their menu. Having visited a number of wineries in South Africa and other countries this will remain a favorite.Visited February 2024Travelled with friendsWritten February 22, 2024
- komandoo2000Denmead, United Kingdom58 contributionsFavourite Vineyard in Franschhoek! We visited Eikehof as part of our wine tram day and this was our third stop… and our last! We were given a taste of rose on arrival and then decided we would stop for a cheese and meat platter and a bottle of wine rather than a wine tasting. We were served by Caleb who was unbelievably helpful and informative. After trying a couple of wines we decided on the Sauvignon Blanc which was wonderful. The platter was delicious and enjoyed whilst sat under the trees overlooking the vines. We were really keen to try Eikehof as we prefer smaller vineyards and we were so very impressed. We had such a fabulous time that we ended up staying all afternoon, sampling more of the first class wines and chatting to Caleb. We missed the last tram back and Caleb kindly dropped us back. It was the most wonderful afternoon and felt like we were treated like friends. Would 100% recommend visiting, Caleb you are a real credit to Eikerhof and thank you for your hospitality and kindness.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten February 28, 2024
- Philip DLiverpool, United Kingdom140 contributionsWhat an amazing wineryVisited today after stopping of the wine tram. Complimentary glass of rose wine on arrival which was lovely. We had the 4 white and 4 red tasters along with a cheese and meat platter which was fab. Would say it was the nicest of the wineries we visited and would certainly recommend it.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten March 8, 2024
- Joe KrollaFirestone, Colorado537 contributionsSmall, fine, friendly and great winesEikehof Wines - just up the road from Franschhoek - was incredible. The backdrop of the Jonkershoek Nature Reserve perfectly complimented the smiling faces and the friendly owners Elize and Francois immediately engaged in conversation and greeted us with complementary rosé. In their backyard, another family was having a reunion-type event while we sat down, took in the gorgeous scenery and amazing decorations such as the old rusty 1942 Ford Cape truck that the previous generations used to harvest their grapes. And their wine selection was as wonderful as the first. It was here that my wife had her hilarious encounter with Jimmy the ostrich after being convinced to feed him, sparking a new love for the curious birds.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten August 31, 2024

We were taken here on a private tour from our hotel, we had planned to visit the following day on the wine tram. We rested here for over an hour for a mixed meat, fuit, cheese platter whilst we tasted the wines. The owners, (husband and wife), sat with us at times to talk about the estate and their wines which was really educational. As opposed to many of the other estates, they had a lovely
outside sitting area under the shade of the trees with views across the farm, (there is also an indoor area). This was one of our favourite vinyards to visit.

Our group of twelve was surprised when our guide took us to this smaller winery. It was a very nice surprise. Eikehof is a family run affair. We found the wines excellent and the cheese and fruit platters were artfully displayed. Please take time to walk their lovely grounds. This place must better than the big well know places near by.

This was one of our stops on the wine tram out of Franschhoek. We were travelling as couples and were going to give it a miss-thank goodness we did not ! A small family run farm which has been in the same family for generations. Warm and friendly welcome by members of the family. Excellent tasting with input from the wine maker who explained the processes in detail and with enthusiasm-what a difference from some of the other stops on the tram. Would be worth going directly and having a leisurely platter on the terrace rather than rushing to get back on the tram. Will consider this next time.

This is an absolutely stunning, small winery owned and run by the loveliest of people. The owners and staff are so friendly and knowledgeable and make sure to talk with every single group about the winery.
You can sit in the shade under one of the magnificent oak trees or go for a walk amongst the vines.
The wines are delicious, I especially enjoyed the Shiraz and the Semillion and the tastings are very reasonably priced. They also offer a free welcome drink of their delicious rose. Additionally they sell some fruit and flowers.
It is on the red line of the hop on hop off wine tour and was my favourite out of all the different wineries we visited.

What a fantastic experience at Eikehof. We visited 7 wineries over 3 days & Eikehof was the most welcoming & most intimate & personal for sure; a refreshing change from some of the bigger commercial operations. The only 1 of the 7 that offered a free glass on arrival & the only 1 that the owners stopped by to chat & tell us all about their fantastic history & wineyard. So relaxing sitting in their wonderful winery tasting some great wines & oh the cheese & fruit platter was truly excellent too. Highly recommend a visit

Wow what an amazing view and experience at this outstanding wine farm! We had an absolutely unforgettable experience at Eikehof. Our host Aunwa De Wet was one of our main highlights at this humble yet exquisite wine tasting experience. Exceptional service! He made us feel special and obligated to return just to re-experience greatness. The wines were great as well. Would recommend to anyone who appreciates class and beauty. Amazing family vibe as well. Also really loved the English bull terrier of the owners. Wow!

Went here as part of a wine tasting day and this was our favourite by far. It is a family run vineyard with superb wines which are reasonably priced. We sat on picnic benches overlooking the vineyard and had a choice of wines to taste. The family spoke to us and told us about the history and how they are diversifying into fruit. Other people were tucking into beautiful cheese platters which looked delicious whilst the rooster pecked around the table whilst a mole was digging up the lawn whilst an ostrich played in the field. Totally grand!

After 2 days of wine tram tours (12 vineyards) we stoped off at Eikehof. This a family run vineyard and Elize was a great host and took time to explain the wines in relaxed manner. The setting is lovely and shade provide by large oak trees. Short walk to the vines and tried the Merlot grapes - lovely and sweet. Went for small cheese board to accompany wines which was excellent combination. We agree it’s the most authentic Franshhoek winery and a must do on the wine tram…. highly recommended!

Can you visit at any time or is it appointment only? I’d love to stop when in the winelands, but can’t find information on the above and opening hours on their website. Thanks!

Hi there!
You can just walk in.
If you want an extra nice experience. Do the Franschoek hop-on-hop-off wine tram. You can visit up to 7 wine farms in 1 day while driving a tram, bus and tractor.
Enjoy!!
