- angandbazTweed Heads, Australia183 contributionsBeautiful pearls - interesting free tourVery interesting - our driver took us as it was free to enter. You start with opening of the oyster shells and shown the ages of the pearls. Then a tour though all the antiquities that have been found in the ocean (I wish some of these had been for sale). Then you are passed on to a sales person. Fairly pushy but I love pearls. I purchased an oval shaped pearl bracelet (a bit cheaper due to their irregular shape) for $56aud and large pearl earrings (also an irregular shape( for $135aud. Not much to buy on Phu Quoc Island so I was happyVisited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten April 10, 2024

Ok place. Nice pearls and everything, but the staff stalked us and did not give us time alone to look and decide what we wanted to buy. It was impossible to relax and even after we made a purchase they didnt allow us to go around to watch the jewellery, they just showed us the door out . Please... just give the customers some time to look around so they can make up their mind. You scare the customers away.

The tour begins in the basement, where you can see tens or even hundreds of thousands of artifacts (from the 15th to the 18th century) from the Bay of Thailand that pearl divers have unearthed over the past 30 years. Among them are many (almost) completely preserved plates, bowls and spoons made of Chinese porcelain.
On the ground floor, the sales room, we felt harassed by the many saleswomen who followed us everywhere and past every display case. Unfortunately, the jewelry models are more in line with Asian tastes. Perhaps the goldsmiths in Europe should take some inspiration from them.
Conclusion: the excellent impression from the basement was degraded to a "normal" impression on the ground floor. What a pity.

Interesting to see the oysters shelled and the pearls harvested. The clam shell artistry is amazing. There is a jewellery price point for everybody. Don’t be put off by the staff who will follow you doggedly as you browse. I bought a great pair of earrings and a ring. One of the ‘diamonds’ fell out of my ring on the first wear. I have emailed them several times together with photos and copies of my receipts with no response. Unfortunately I noticed this loss after I had left Phu Quoc so I was unable to return in person. Due to the lack of response I would not be prepared to return my ring for review through the post. Buyer beware.

Came without high expectations after reading the reviews. There was a five minute explanation of the pearl cultivation process and the different types and colors of pearls. Then, they opened a few oysters and explained that there is about a 40-50% chance an oyster actually produces a pearl. This is followed by an elevator ride up to the expansive showroom with all types of jewelry on display from rings, necklaces, earrings, carvings, etc. Seems reasonably priced. By the way, the showroom prices were about half that of the airport location.

The tour was cool and I’d recommend going. However, I would have purchased some beautiful pearl earrings or a necklace if the retail assistant wasn’t chasing me around. In Australian culture, it is polite to let the customer wander around themselves and then call for assistance. Not chase them out of the store.

Was very interesting to see the museum and showroom. It’s well located and the museum tour plus seeing all the beautiful pearls at the show room took less than 1 hour in total.
