Where can I start with what I experienced. Everything was professional. The staff went overboard to make sure the trip was memorable. The scenery can only be viewed from a train. The train yard is worth the walk about.

Lunch between 2 states. This was a wild one but a good twist. Same track with 2 trains covering 2 different states. My review is about our 33rd state New Mexico of the 50-State Quest done in August of ((1996 not 2016)). That is because...More

While we waited to board the train, we were treated to the pre-trip preparations of the engineers. It was exciting to see the steam locomotive moving about the train yard, releasing steam as the wheels turned and the rods moved forward and back. As we...More

My husband and I decided to take a weekend and go ride the Cubres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. We live in the southern part of New Mexico so we just drove in the night before. We went and checked in to the railroad and roamed...More

Heard about this from a railroad enthusiast in Oregon who has himself never been on it, but has long heard it was a great experience and he was not kidding! Went last October when the fall colors were out and it was stunning! The all-you-can-eat...More

Wow-got to take the fall tour on a very nice day. They are very accommodating in allowing rail fans to walk through the rail yards. You can take pictures of everything. Only thing they say is "say out of the way of moving railcars". The...More

Great scenic 64 miles train ride around the Rocky Mountain from Chama to Antonito. We rode on the open air Gondola car during the whole trip to catch the best view. The view is spectaclar. There is also a rest stop for lunch which is...More

Too much could be written about this beautiful fall day. The docent on the flatbed train sticks out in my mind as being the most informative person on the train. Our guide/hostess on the first portion of the train was also informative and had a...More

We are thinking about taking the Chama Train Ride in July, 2017. We did the Durango Parlor Train 8 years ago. Is this train ride as pretty as the Durango Parlor Train? Is taking the first train from Chama, the prettiest part of the trip? Is the parlor Car worth the money? Would appreciate any recent information you have.

We are planning to do this ride during the Memorial day weekend. I see that most of the reviews are for Sept - Oct timeframe. Is it worth our while to travel back and forth from ABQ for this train ride in May? I know it won't be as scenic as fall colors but as long there is going to be greenery around and good views we would be content.

I would say yes! However, this is a long ride and I think they provide a bus for the return trip. The train itself is a hoot, including all the preliminaries at the yard before departure. Lots of beautiful areas. If... More
