We stayed in Gallup for the night and found this park. We were looking for a place to walk our dog after being in the car for so long. We arrived around 3 o'clock and took her on the pyramid trail. It had snowed recently and the trail was a bit muddy and slippery. Even though we weren't sure where... More

From here you can access the trail to Church Rock or Pyramid Rock. The trail to Church Rock is amazing. Spectacular views and a really nice trail.

For $20 you get up to 50amp electric and water hookups. Two dump stations are on property. We stayed in winter so it wasn't crowded at all. We made no reservations, but just showed up. The camp host came to us a couple hours later. Very friendly person. Sites were confusing and small... but since it wasn't busy we took... More

Saw this wonderful rock formation heading west into Gallup. The helpful staff at our hotel told us its name, Church Rock, and told us Red Rock Park. From inside the park there is a good trail that leads to Church Rock. It was too late in the day to complete the hike but we really enjoyed being outdoors and seeing... More

My sister and I found this place after discovering the campgrounds at the National Park nearby was closed. We were pulling a camper behind a truck and spent a total of two nights here. We enjoyed our stay here very much because it was not super crowded, had a picnic table, easy to pull our camper through, and convenient to... More

Gorgeous 45-minute hike to the top -- It's a good little workout with incredible geology and beautiful 360 degree views of the high desert. Directions: Once you enter Red Rock State Park, drive past the Churchrock post office, turn right immediately before the main events building, drive through the horse stables and rodeo area, and park right at the trail... Great get away from the glitz of Vegas. This is natural beauty and peace. Beware - when you drive the scenic loop it dumps you outside the park.

These rock formations are absolutely beautiful -- we just drove the road, not hiked the park. There are lots of places to pull over and take pictures, or just take in nature. The red coloring is spectacular. We just returned from the Andes Mountains in Peru, and these formations rivaled the beauty we saw there.

We really liked this park but can understand why others could be frustrated. We arrived after 4:00 when the office is closed but the Ranger stopped by, we paid and she gave us not only the key to the bathroom but also a brochure about the park, a map and a nice booklet on Gallup, NM. The sites are long... More

Tried to make reservations on a weekend - phone not answered, no staff in RV area all weekend. Need a key to use locked restrooms, but no key without payment. There were 31 hot air balloon pilots here plus 100 more crewmembers on Oct 12, 2015 and no restroom facilities available. City of Gallup should at least provide a porta-potty... More
