It's nice, but...

We had a jeep with us so we really enjoyed the whole area around the lake. It was very sandy in places so we were careful, but we had a lot of fun. Also spent some time just sitting with our feet in the water.

Love visitng this best kept secret almost don't want to review it because its so peaceful and beautiful and just a wonderful place to escape too. The lake is gorgeous with wonderful views and great camping - nice restaurents and convenient to stores - the beaches are great - not to crowded or noisy even on holidays. Great place to... More

The Butte is a great place. It is not like AZ or Colorado lakes. Its hot. Gets real windy at about 1300-1600 hours. (Gusts). Tie things down no matter what. Keeps things covered. Watch for Hazards that are not marked on the water. There are a lot of them. Your Boat Prop will get beat up. Use aluminum props it... More

Okay, so overall Elephant Butte is a nice lake and beach, BUT, I do not recommend tent camping. EVER. We've done it twice and both time gale force winds knocked down our tent. There was sand in everything and... everywhere. The entire day was filled with the roar of trucks and RVS trying to get out of the foot-deep soft... More

...make sure you get there early if you plan to go on the weekend. People set up their campers early and some do not like it if you get too close to them. There was a definite feeling of ownership around here even though no one owns their spot. Also, be very careful when driving around as you can easily... More

Nice visit, great weather, and no crowds. I was there for a couple of weekday visits. Did a bit of kiteboarding, although the wind wasn't very good for kites. Very gusty, but not unexpected as that's how it is on inland lakes. Staff were friendly and acomodating. I'll certainly return. The park was exceptionally clean.

Took my dog, Tebow ,here to watch the sunset after a half day of driving from ABQ. Very scenic and relaxing. $10 dollars to camp (I think) and $5 to enter park. There are bathrooms, showers and you can swim in the man made reservoir. Crappie is one of the stocked fish. Many people "glamping" with extra toys, boats, full... More

We came in off the street and didn't reserve a spot so when we got there we paid for 2 days and went and checked out spots...would have been nice to be told that if we wanted the really nice ones on the bottom row that we had to reserve them online and couldn't change our space.

Clean, well-maintained, safe, pretty, peaceful place. Friendly, helpful staff and rangers. Be sure to bring the kids up to Damsite area to feed the multitudes of friendly grey squirrels that will take peanuts in the shell right from your hand. And enjoy one of the best views in the park! They have a fun Easter egg hunt , with great... More

I stopped by just passing through. I wasn't planning to do anything water sport related. But a rather picture taking. Definitely a nice place to take pictures. The part is so large and its wasn't crowded. For the people that were there, they had a lot of privacy. There were also plenty of table areas. The park is clean as... More
