Took the family to Puye for a guided tour. We were impressed with the history and how well they have preserved everything. It is easy to visualize what life was like for the people. They inhabited the cliffs for 700 years so finding remnants of bowls and tools are everywhere. We had fun picking up pieces of bowls and arrowheads... More

We picked this "hike" based on other TripAdvisor reviewers. It was worth it. We got there early (about 8:30am) before the guide showed up, so we were allowed to hike up and down the cliff on our own. There are some places you need to climb using hand-holds and there's a very, very tall ladder to climb. The caves, petroglyphs... More

We took the one hour guided tour with Elijah, and we truly enjoyed it. Elijah was a great guide and taught us much about his people, the Tewa tribe. We felt that we learned more from Elijah than we had in many visits to other Native American sites. The place was fascinating and beautiful, and Elijah was a great guide.... More

Ancient Santa Clara Pueblo cliff dwellings are an unusual, spectacular step back in time. We travelled out of our way to experience the incredible culture of these ancient people. Take the tour and climb up into the dwellings. The panoramic view is also beautiful.

We came upon this by accident and had to stop and check them out. These are cliff dwellings. The Puye Cliffs complex includes includes two levels of cliff-dwellings and surface and cave dwellings plus the mesa top and reconstructed 'Community House' are accessed by paths and about twelve stairways and ladders cut into the side of the cliff. Since we... More

We had a wonderful tour of the Puye Cliff Dwellings, which included a 13-foot climb down into an actual kiva, and a descent of perhaps 100 feet down the cliff. It was all perfectly safe and there are other options for people less mobile or adventurous. The guide, whose family had lived in the area for more than 1,000 years, was... More

Elija was our knowledgeable, enthusiastic guide who has a college degree in Indian studies. He explained everything about the dwellings, culture, and even the Santa Clara pottery! We visited Bandelier first yet we learned so much with our excellent guide! We highly recommend this two hour tour!

We visited the Puye Cliff Dwellings in March 2016. The weather was perfect. We paid for the Mesa Top Tour and did not require advance reservations. We purchased the day of the tour. Our guide drove us to the top and gave us the option to climb down or be driven down in the van. Wow! The view was incredible... More

Take the chance to check out the Puye cliff dwellings. They take you to the cliff top via a van and then you check out the ruins on the top and make you way down ladders and pathways to the bottom. The tour guide was excellent and we truly gained some great insight into the lives of the people who... More
