Being a Teddy Roosevelt fan, I stopped here specifically to view the Rough Rider's portion of the museum. The space devoted to the Rough Riders is small but very interesting. There are several uniforms on display which were actually used in the Spanish American War and the photographic display are outstanding. Lots of insightful information on some of the events... More

If you find yourself in Las Vegas, NM and you have 30 minutes to spare, pay a visit to this museum. It's small and local, but it's free. Donations are accepted, of course. The interesting exhibits include Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders (Northern New Mexico provided a large contingent to the fighting unit) and, surprisingly, a section devoted to the Chinese... More

We went to this museum to see the Rough Rider collection of memorabilia and that did not disappoint. Fascinating information also. It's a very small museum and doesn't take much time to see it all but they have a very nice collection.

Had been meaning to stop for years and glad I finally got around to it. Great local museum with well presented exhibits. Being an amateur historian my main interest was on the Rough Riders exhibit, but what I seemed to enjoy the most was the exhibit on local folk tales. Staff (volunteers?) very nice and know their town's interesting history.... More

Small museum with nice exhibits about local history. Loved the exhibit about the Chinese laundries in Las Vegas in the 19th century.

We were excited about stopping here to learn more about Roosevelt's Rough Riders. There is so much information and items to view that it was overwhelming. I think it actually may have been more effective for most visitors if they had not given so much detail as I found myself just skipping things after I realized there was no way... More

A great step back in to the past of the old southwest. Many original artifacts of the old west are available to see.

We stopped here to stretch our legs on our way back home to Texas. I am currently reading a biography on Theodore Roosevelt, so I was particularly interested in seeing it. The displays were very informative and the docent gave us a brief history of Las Vegas upon our arrival. Many of the Rough Riders were from NM. Very interesting... More

The city museum is a great place to visit when arriving in Las Vegas, NM. It is free although donations are appreciated. Local history, civil war history and, of course, Teddy Roosevelt 's rough riders history are covered clearly and concisely. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly and answered all of the questions posed by our group of twelve.
