Find the right area.

Be sure to drive around. I drove in to the first boat dock area and it was packed with kids and lots of people and the water was a little murky looking with a lot of water plants... read more

Is Ute Lake for Fishermen/women? - you bet! Is Ute Lake for Water Skiers? - you bet! Campers and RV'er's? - you bet! Hikers and strollers? - you bet! How about S'mores Makers? - Absolutely. AND it's great for "Lake Sitters" too - those are folks sitting on a low, beach chair, in the water, wearing a large hat, sunglasses... More

Found out about this lake from friends. Now it is our regular retreat. Love that it is quiet, low use and CLEAN water.

Stayed in primitive campsite, perfect setting. Great location by the lake. A raging storm briefly pummeled us with rain & lightening then passed just as quickly leaving us with a beautiful sunset. Love coming here. The shower facilities were easy to access and there are resources available in the nearby town if you find your preparations lacking.

We are traveling across the country tent camping with our 2 dogs. The lake looked beautiful online and the campground seemed pretty easy so we booked online. The lake itself was pretty and the campground was in a good location. BUT, I really think this is much more geared towards RV camping, not tents. There are little stickers everywhere that... More

park officials dont really inforce the rules... went to the beach and someone came with a pit bull (no leash) and started throwing a ball into the crowded waters ... joining the other great dane and little mutt ( also no leash) while everyone watched them do there business at shore (owners never cleaned the "gifts" up). bring a good... Be sure to drive around. I drove in to the first boat dock area and it was packed with kids and lots of people and the water was a little murky looking with a lot of water plants. Too crowded for me. I like the south side best, not so crowded and the water seems clearer on that side. Its... More

2nd largest lake in NM. Offers numerous types of fish to fish for. Boating, jet skiing, tubing, skiing and other water activities. Holidays are extremely busy (thousands) but it is always a good time.

We live in the area and spend a ton of time at the lake in the summer. You can find plenty to do here, swimming, fishing, hiking trails, camping, etc.

After driving across the Oklahoma and Texas tabletop smooth prairie, it was a pleasant site to see Ute Lake emerge from the desert scrub. We are here in the off season and there was no staff present. Self-Check In at the campground was relatively understandable. Don't go barefoot! Watch out for the spiny "nettles" that get lodged in your footwear,... More
