While exploring Raton looking for something to do, we stumbled on this gem. In the past we had traveled over the pass to a theater we found in Trinidad, CO but we won't be doing that again. This place was amazing! Beautiful art deco theater from the 1930s when going to the movies was a really big deal! We saw... More

What a treasure! This little art deco gem of a movie theater was built in the 1930s in this rustic old coal mining/ railroad town. Almost abandoned at one time, it was purchased and upgraded to Dobly 7.1 sound, and is the only 3D equipped movie theater between Colorado Springs, and Albuquerque! The only thing holding back the rating is... More

Beautiful little old theater that has a fully updated projector (that plays 3D movies) and sound system! Nice little snack bar up front with a friendly staff working it. The movies that play there run for about a week each ( maybe they should alternate showings of movies so they can hit a wider crowd) fairly priced tickets and the... More

We have watched movies at the El Raton many times. Theater is old but charming. FOlks operating the theater are great and strive to support the local community. Popcorn is great so well worth the visit.

Viewing a film with modern sound and picture in an original historic theater, what could be better? Prices are fair, and the staff is friendly and helpful. The 3D glasses lenses are often used and dirty, or even scratched. It might be worth bringing your own 3D glasses from home. They only have one film at a time, and it's... More

El Raton is one of the few 'atmospheric' theatres left. In stead of watching a movie in a modern 'box' theatre, watch here, and be amazed by the art deco architecture, the castle theme, and of course the Dolby Digital 3D picture and Dolby 7.1 surround sound! While you are there, try some of the best popcorn you'll ever taste,... More
