A stone throw from Ruidoso Downs, one of many fine racing tracks owned by Mr Hubbard , is The Museum of the Horse.... hard to miss if you see the bronze horses out front. The museum contains a great selection of carriages; stagecoaches and wagons and lots of western memorabilia . It was the perfect museum to explain the culture... More

Rather difficult to figure out when the museum was open. Website had different days and times then the visitor center or the actual museum had. The price was average, but there is really only one floor and then a gift shop. We were expecting more local history -- especially since the Race track is next door. Learned a lot, and... More

What a tribute to one of God's amazing creations! Not only horse information, but some of the interesting buggies, carriages, chuck wagons - all that were horse driven. The personal collection of an eastern socialite turned cowgirl was donated to the museum and is extremely fascinating. We can see why this museum is now part of the Smithsonian. You will... More

We loved the horse museum even though we are not horse people. The grounds and exterior horse sculptures are spectacular, and interior displays are diverse and interesting. Also, this is on the way to 2 large antique malls, so it makes a nice afternoon of pleasant activity.

This museum is spacious and attractive. Plenty of room to see all the western items including wagons, gun, art, history and a children's area. Fun in Winter or Summer.

This was a lovely place filled with antiques & history. Lots of wagons to show our kids exactly how people used to get around daily or travel. Beautiful displays of everyday items people used with lots of information. Indoors so great winter or summer. There's no touching of the displays so keep an eye on the kids.

Dee Hubbard has done an excellent job with this museum. It is both historic and modern at the same time. We love to stop there whenever we visit and it is worth it. Check it out and you will see what i mean.

Good for history buffs. The 101 ranch story was the best part of the museum. Lots of photos of the old cowboy days in New Mexico. They have a few old firearms, wish they had more of those. I was hoping for some Indian artifacts but they were totally lacking on those. But for 5 bucks admission, you can't beat... More

This is a local museum first established in Patagonia, AZ. It was fascinating to see it organized in a way that more fully articulated the life of the original founder. Expanded to now be named Museum of the American West, and to include a bit more local lore, visitors will find this more interesting than they might first expect. On... More
