Visited the lake on a weekday and it was gorgeous. The place was very peaceful with only a few hikers in the area. The lake is man made but still nice. Trails are well marked and easy to find. There is a general map in the entrance so you can choose how much you want to hike and the difficulty... More

We enjoyed geocaching and hiking around the lake. We saw a few fisherman out and about on the shores - not sure if they were catching any - but the place sure is quiet and beautiful otherwise!

Nice hike 2.4 miles around the reservoir. lots of people fishing, birthday parties occurring at picnic areas. Little hard at the end if you want to make the full loop around the dam you have to go down then back up. Very easy trail I think it's called Fishermens.

There isn't anything there. It is a clean area to fish or something. Other people had brought stuff for cooking out. It looked like there were hiking trails near it, but we didn't do that.

FREE ! The hike down to the lake is a bit rigorous though, and not much to do there except fish - which must be good because there were lots of people fishing there. There are picnic tables (although not with a view of the lake -- they are all down the road at the discus golf - which was... More

I traveled to this lake while staying in Ruidoso early this summer. Not only do they offer fishing and other water based activities, but they have plenty of hiking and biking trails as well, which was the reason I went. The trails have lots of pretty scenery to offer and can be quite the workout! I took my mountain bike... More

Great fishing but very crowded and there is no shade. There are also people that swim even though you aren't supposed to so if you are serious about your fishing you may have to move around some. Just be aware that it stays crowded and can be hard to find a new spot. Trails around the area are worth checking... More

Great Hiking Trail around the Lake, but it is long!! Enjoyed doing this trail with our dogs and being in the outdoors! There is also fishing at this lake, but we didn't fish.

Take your pole and some bait, you will want to exercise your patience and relieve some stress catching mountain fish. Weather catch-n-release or to take back to your cabin and eat, you will enjoy mountain fishing at Grindstone Lake.

don't bother to bring the fishing poles, there is no water in the lake. Kind of sad the drought is so extreme. Keep going up the road the the hiking up the canyon is wonderful. Even have a stream to dip your toes if you choose
