Taos Fly Shop is a full service year round fly shop. It was the first fly shop in Taos, opened in 1980 by Taylor Streit. Taylor closed the shop in ’87 though he continued to guide the area while authoring three books on the subject. After a 17 year hiatus, Taylor’s son Nick re-opened the Taos Fly Shop in 2004. Nick still owns and operates the store while Taylor manages the guiding business, using the shop as his base.

We pride ourselves at being friendly and helpful, providing an easy going, non-intimidating atmosphere. We carry a great selection of equipment for all price ranges and experience levels. Whether you’re looking for technical advice on equipment, the “hot fly”, or your first fly rod, Taos Fly Shop is happy to help.

A group of us (4 newbies) took a guided trip with TFS on Nov 12th to fish on the Rio Grande. We had two guides that were both awesome, passionate, nice guys, that were incredibly knowledgeable. Our main guide that I mostly fished with was Ron. Just read the other reviews...as everyone will tell you this guy is great. Very... More

I do a lot of fly fishing and this is one of the best Shops in the southwest. They have a great selection of gear with a cool Taos vibe. Their guides are some of the best in the business. If you need a guide ask for Ron Sedall I have fished with him multiple times he always seems to... More

We hired a guide named Brian. He was so good with us. We are just starting out fly fishing and learned so much from him! He took us to the Rio Grande (we're from Texas so that was a treat). The views spectacular. He was so patient and understanding with us as my wife had a bad foot. We caught... More

Super friendly service! The guys in the fly shop were very friendly and very knowledgeable about local fishing. A guided fly fishing trip and Taos is in our future.

Both wife and I tried the intro package. Our guide was great, both on explaining equipment and teaching casting technique. We had a beautiful fall afternoon on the Rio Grande to try it out and had a wonderful time.

TFS guide Ron Sedall may be the best guide I've had in the past 25 years, incredibly knowledgeable about the local rivers (Red and Rio Grande), equipment, and fishing strategy but without being arrogant about it. Also a great "coach", patient and encouraging even when your casts are way off the mark. Great experience for myself and my son.

If you are visiting Taos and want to go fishing nearby, this is a great place for information and to get your questions answered. Emily was friendly, patient, and helpful. Feels like we made a friend!

Took a guided trip with Ron to the Los Pinos and Rio Hondo. We had a great time and caught fish. Ron was so helpful and patient for us beginners, now we are inspired to pursue fly fishing back at home in North Georgia. Emily in the shop was delightful to work with as well. If we come back (no... We tried Dos Amigos, but they simply weren't open when their website said they would be, so we luckily found the Taos Fly shop. We didn't need a guide, just some info and gear. The man there was super nice and told us just where to go and what to use. So over the top friendly, we needed to write... More
