We were in a party of 27 people and were very well received and accommodated. Tables had been set for us, each with 4 glasses ready for the tasting. The port wines are listed as 'port' on the wine list, but they cannot call it 'port' on the bottle label. Loved the vintage 2007 and the hanepoort (but I do have a very sweet tooth!). after the tasting (of 4 wines) we were given a superb cold lunch of meats, cheeses. Loved their bar top made of barrel staves joined together and polished.

A group of Tourism Professionals recently undertook a wine tasting trip to Calitzdorp and Calitzdorp Cellar was one of our stops. Professional service, a wide selection of wine and a beautiful stoep to sit and look out over the scenery - a must do when in Calitzdorp!

We stopped by this place at the last minute. It was worth the stop. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about their wines and the local area. The wine tasting was nice and relaxed while enjoying a great conversation with staff. If you're driving through take the time to stop in this place. I'd like to return for a stay over and check out the breakfast the others writing reviews mentioned..

Nicely air-conditioned venue. Friendly tasting room staff. Chardonnay & Pinotage are great value for money dry wines. The fortified wines out of this world, fantastic!

Been in the area before and went to these cellars to buy wine. On the veranda there are now two ladies operating a little restaurant. If you want to experience true Karoo hospitality, sit down, order some wine from next door (the cellar) and relax while enjoying delicious food and the most beautiful view.
We had the cheese and meat platter. It was beautifully set out and so delicious. Wish we could have stayed longer.

What more could one want? Well thrown in for free is the most fantastic view, particularly at sunset from the veranda, whilst you enjoy tasting the wine and port selection from the cellar, you can at the same time make a choice from the appetizing and varied menu. A trip to Calitzdorp cellar will not disappoint, sundowners served every other Friday, so be sure to phone ahead and get the correct one.

Entance is decieving and quite plain. Great service. Small but adequate menu. And a great view. We bought some good bottles at a great price

Coming from a country where alcohol is heavily taxed and selections limited for the budget-conscious I was a very happy drinker at Calitzdorp Cellar. Choosing what to buy was difficult because of the fine selection (wine-tasting available). I like the wines here because of my preference for dessert wines (which are not so widely available in Malaysia). I bought two bottles, which were nicely packed in a cardboard box that is easy to carry. They survived the flight back home. The prices are really cheap, around RM10 to RM15 (compared to what is charged in Malaysia - usually above RM100, even at the KLIA airport) - I wish I could have bought more.

Getting the bottles past Malaysian customs could be a bit tricky as we are limited to 1 litre per person. My advice is to keep the bottles in your main bag. The customs tend to stop people with boxes. And keep the receipt - you can claim for VAT at the international airports in South Africa. Ask for the price list too, which you can show to the customs if they want to tax you. A fellow traveller was inspected and the tax asked for was ridiculous - many times over the price of the wine. If it's too high, just offer to leave the bottle behind, after all, it's only RM10 to RM15 - why should you be paying RM60 for tax? More likely, you can meet halfway. Even if you decide to leave your bottle, it's not a big hole in your pocket. A bottle is cheaper than a visit to Starbucks.

Besides wine, there are also other items you can buy, like local jams.

If it were not for the fact that I and my family had bought wine here previously and loved it, I would not have bought again. The lady who 'assisted' us was extremely rude and unwilling to help in any way - she seemed to resent the fact that we were making her come out to add up our items and only warmed up marginally (very marginally!) once she realised we intended to buy something. My friend from overseas actually commented to me that she would not have bought wine if it were just the interaction from the lady that was swaying her decision.
