I loved this hike. I absolutely recommend it. But when I say "steep", I mean that the moderate rated-trails will feel more intense than that for the first 1/3 for an average day-hike person. Take your time, go slow, bring water - totally worth it. We were there on Halloween and the trees were magnificent! I think they would have been even more spectacular a week earlier.

A great hike

This hike is not particularly long, but it is quite steep, so be prepared. There's no need for technical equipment, but I was happy to have on sturdier shoes than just sneakers. The view from the top is wide and beautiful. Many go on to the fire tower, but we kept our walk short. For a great recap of this hike with tons of info, go to hikethehudsonvalley.com. Very steep

Climbed quite a few mountains in my life but this one is not for out of practice hikers. The steps made it worse because it had rained earlier and made entire mountain a mess, and paths are narrow and rocky in areas so you feel rushed by other hikers and yes runners. its a historical location and was probably a sight in it’s hay day, but its all young tree growth
all the same wherever you look. Which made it harder at the top to hang on, view at the top was good, no place to go relieve yourself either.

It is a must do. The view is breath taking. You may see an eagle too. Bring a sandwich and have lunch at the top
