Van Cortlandt Parkis the third largest New York City Park with 1,146 acres. Over half of the Park is forested and it has the largest freshwater lake in the borough. There is a lot of history in the Park:

- It contains the Bronx's oldest building, the Van Cortlandt House built in 1748-49. The Park has the oldest municipal golf course in the United States, the Van Cortlandt Golf Course, founded in 1895.

-It has a National Historic Landmark trail, the Old Croton Aqueduct Trail, which travels the route of the city's original water tunnel.

Inside VCP is a cross-country running course with a national reputation. Every year, the rugged course hosts the national cross-country championships as well as the Manhattan College Invitational for high school students throughout the U.S.

Running track, handball courts, paved bicycle and walking trails. Dirt trails also. horse stable, golf course. Get this, one of the dirt trails is considered what remains of the old Putnam train line. Are you ready for this? If you take this trail North it continues into the next county of Westchester. In Westchester the trail becomes paved and is... More

Huge park, very scenic in the fall. It is relatively flat so it is easier to navigate compared to other parks in the city. Easily accessible by subway, with the station right next to one of the park gates. Visit the historic Van Cortlandt House Museum inside the park if you have time.

What a beautiful well maintained park. Not really tranquil because you hear road traffic most of the time, but we got a nice walk in, saw fall color, and the trails are well marked

Love this park for the biking trails. The Putnam bike trail was great. Leading all the way up to Yonkers. There is a beautiful Lake by the side of the trail and plenty of places to take pics or just relax and enjoy the scenery. There are also many other things to do in this park. A word of caution... A city recreation mecca, Van Cortlandt Park hosts facilities for a long list of sports: baseball, basketball, bocci, cricket, football, soccer, tennis, handball, paddleball, and golf. Additionally there is a nature center, a riding stable, a running track, cross country courses and plenty of playground. The park is generally centered around The Parade Ground -a large flat expanse that contains... More

The #1 train brought me to its northern terminal station, Van Cortlandt Park, in the northwestern Bronx. I was greeted by the aromas from numerous barbecues, glanced at the wetlands, walked around the freshwater lake, skirted the first public golf course in America, watched a cricket game on the parade ground, enjoyed dogs frolicking happily in the canine park, and... The park is beautiful and big, but it gets too crowded in the summer months to the point of been almost dangerous.

Large and beautiful park, excellent playground. The pool is extremely nice and large. Just be aware they want to see the lining in your shorts! ( for what reason I am unsure) and I found the carcass of a dead bird in the men's locker room near the urinals, so sanitation/cleanliness may be an issue here.

The park and the rest of the areas are so relaxing and peaceful you will find it hard to believe that you are in the middle of the Bronx it's a great place to go for some quiet time away from the hustle and bustle of your holiday,it's just so perfect,we really liked the folks who we met there.
